Late Night Diner Information

It's late, your hankering for a decent feed - where do you go? Well, if you want to bypass those fast food joints and you're in the middle of the Ponsonby strip, head on down to Late Night Diner. The fellows behind the Ponsonby Social Club have just opened what could be considered by many as Ponsonby's best after-hours eatery.

The Late Night Diner is the place to go after the Pub when you need a decent feed. The inside reminds me of an Amercian Diner.

I miss the Open Late Cafe that was on Ponsonby Road in the late 90s. I loved that they were open till all hours serving huge burgers, impressive hot chocolates and scrummy desserts to the drunk and vertically challenged.

We came here for dessert but on spying their lobster I will definitely be going back for dinner. My friends and I had the Rhubarb Cobbler which came out in a dish on top of a wooden board and with your own little jug of custard. It was hot and the topping crunchy. My other friend had the donuts served in a mandarin sauce which was original and ice cream on the side.

Service was good too. I will be back.

Stopped into Late Night Diner after a late night movie downtown with my partner and his friend, I thought I’d go to this new diner I’d read about in the Herald, rave reviews.

It was not to be. Terrible service. Will not be returning.

Lamb, average
Reuben sandwich, sour and unappetising
Burger & Fries, pattie OK, filling not so, fries fine
Drinks, expensive even by Ponsonby standards

Overpriced and overrated.
Unless you are going to Late Night Diner really really late when everything else is shut just go to a real restaurant if you want good food.

Have lived in Freemans Bay for 13 years, there are a lot of other great options nearby – I can vouch for this area.

Nice, low-key atmosphere and a cool fit-out.
It has a good list of craft beers which steers clear of the usual suspects and an excellent pumpkin pie martini.
Good, honest food at a reasonable price and served in plain enamelware, uncluttered by over the top presentation.
