Stopped in on Sunday for something sweet with a cup of tea.The staff were lovely... We had beautiful tea with freshly made Chocolate Brioche and Crepe Suzette to share...Now in all fairness the Brioche down at the French Market by Cibo in St Georges Road in Parnell is pretty hard to beat but this definitely came a close 2nd. The crepe Suzette was beautiful. OMG I mean REALLY beautiful and I would definitely recommend you try this...the Citroen Crepe sounded nice too!!! This was a really nice break in our shopping at the Britomart. It wouldn't be somewhere that I would come for lunch or dinner though. Not the ambiance you would want. Note: No toilets in the café. A large key is given for the main toilets in the Britomart area. So it takes a good 5 mins or so to walk there and back. Again, ok for a snack break but not for lunch or dinner.

What a disappointment! A chicken casserole with no chicken, a duck omelette with no duck and a side salad that was more like a garnish. The lack of said protein was explained away as 'its shredded'. well may be but it should still be detectable! When the casserole was sent back it returned with chunks of chicken swimming in the gruel but no such luck with the duck, which sounded delicious on the menu. The wine was good! Obviously great for breakfast and lunch according to these reviews but the experience last night was woeful. With the amount of competition for the dining dollar increasing in this part of town the menu delivery needs to up their game 100 percent.

I've been to L'Assiette many times, for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It has never disappointed me and you can really get the French flair in that place. The croissants are excellent - and while I had promised myself to eat only one when going there, not a chance - they're just too good.

You'll find nice varieties on the breakfast menu of dishes that you may have seen before in a different way but with a truly French touch. The lunch and evening menu are worth having a separate look as daily specials can be very creative and balance the view of some that look at L'Assiette as a price restaurant.

The coffee is excellent and I had one of the best mushroom soups there in my life so far.

We called in to l'assiette to have breakfast on a Saturday morning. I only wanted fruit as had been overdoing the calorie intake so asked for their bowl of fresh fruit and yogurt, well it was fruit and it was fresh but 90% sliced apple with about 4 slices of kiwifruit topped with a meagre spoonful of yogurt is not acceptable. It would have been a concern anyway but having a Metro magazine recommendation made it even more of a disappointment especially as the Britomart Market with truckloads of fresh strawberries was only 20 metres away After my complaint, they did not charge us but they did not seem to care very much either. Dommage.

I really like L'Assiette, among my favourite eateries in the Britomart precinct. The whole set up of the place feels really inviting with its bright clean walls. The glass entry way allows light to stream into the place, giving it a warm feel.

This place seems to always be bustling. I highly recommend that you go early to allow oneself the full selection of pastries to choose from. Unless, like me, a limited selection may assist you in making decisions easier.

Food:
Their mains may sound really simple, but the flavours really do make their dishes stand out.

I've tried the beef bourguignon which was good. I'd also recommend trying their specials for the day.

I've yet to try their dinners but would love to one day.

Price-range is probably tipping towards the expensive end of the scale, but still somewhat affordable. Portions may look small-ish, but it is enough. Otherwise, supplementation with their pastries, which I love, works perfectly.

Give the croissants & pan au chocolat a go. Also, highly recommended are their eclairs and chocolate tart, which is simply divine. Smooth and velvety chocolate. Definitely not plastic-like as you may sometimes get.

Drinks:
I don't drink coffee so I'm not able to comment on that. But their hot chocolate wasn't anything to rave about. At least it came with a little Hershey's choc.

Enthusiastic, friendly and forthcoming french staff give L'Assiette a real edge. Excellent coffee, fabulous pastry, plenty of other options and the place to come to sample the Masterchef macaroons. The L'Assiette team are aiming to provide fresh, unpretentious food with care and service to match. This is going to be our new weekend brunch favourite, especially since we noticed the convenient access way from the underground Britomart station into the building that L'Assiette is located in.

My review of L'Assiette was meant to be four stars but came through as three. So here's a "reply" to average it out. Anne - Report

I popped into L'Assiette today on the off chance that they had some croissants left. I had ordered some from a well known quality baker in the CBD but had been let down and needed them for a posh dinner party dessert. Alas, there was only one left at L'Assiette, but was told rather apologetically that if I didn't mind waiting 20 minutes they could make me some more. Fortunately I asked for extras as one didn't last the journey home.

after seeing last nights Masterchef final I was really keen to try some macaroons to see what all the fuss was about. Had heard L'Assiette was the place to try them, so packed off my mother in law and off we went.
L'Assiette is a pretty small place (quite hard to find in Britomart if I'm honest) but it was pretty busy so most people didn't have the same difficulty.
The macaroons are every bit what I was expecting from the show - lovely and crunchy - you couldn't have too many of them in a sitting though.
The coffee at L'Assiette was also particularly good - well worth the trip downtown.
