Vibe
The small but perfectly formed café and bar has consistently enjoyed top billing as one of Ponsonby Road’s most popular cafes and the gentle ambiance that Landreth & Co has become synonymous for is a large part of its recipe for success.

Service
Ponsonby was particularly busy on this visit and Landreth & Co was no exception. Despite this, service was attentive and friendly, and our group was never under any pressure to move along.

Drinks List
The breakfast smoothie is particularly tasty if fulfilling one of your New Year’s resolutions is the order of the day, or if you happen to be dining at a later hour, one of the five varietals of wine (available by the glass or bottle) or the few beer options should serve you well.

Highlights
Landreth & Co’s ‘Big Breakfast’ takes some beating – ample portions of dill potatoes, sausage, bacon, creamy mushrooms and perfectly poached eggs combine to create what must be one of Auckland’s best big breakfast combinations. The corn fritters and dill potatoes with poached egg options were by all accounts very well received by my dining companions.

Most Suprising Dish
The Waikanae Crab omelette at a refreshingly affordable price tag of $16.50 looked the most likely candidate but with other items such as the pomegranate salad with parma ham or the gingerbread pancakes, a return visit is now a given.

The Bottom Line
Surprisingly good value for this end of town with four meals, eight coffees and a final bill just tipping over the $100 mark – very un-Ponsonby like indeed.

A Reason to Return
There’s plenty of room for exploration amongst Landreth & Co’s small yet fulfilling menu and failing that, a return to the tried and true ‘Big Breakfast’ order is reason enough.
