We went to La Vista last night for dinner and invited two friends to join us, one from the UK and the other who lives in Remuera. We arrived just after 6.30 and managed to get the last table as we hadn't booked. The waitress was from Russia and was very friendly. We ordered drinks and were talking amongst ourselves while listening to the live music, a lovely singer with castanets and accompanying guitarist playing Spanish style background music, very in keeping with the restaurant.

The waitress came and explained the specials then took our meal orders. I ordered rack of lamb which was scrumptious, especially the butternut, potato cake and the rosemary jus was particularly delicious, and two of the others ordered eye fillet steak which was cooked to perfection. Our other guest ordered the payella which she also thoroughly enjoyed and the plate was so full there was plenty to take home. All the meals were plentiful in size and came with a range of vegetables etc and we ordered an extra plate of vegetables to share which was also plentiful. The meals were absolutely outstanding and really tasty, priced reasonably (around $30 per main which is usual these days in Auckland), our compliments to the chef.

The restaurant is Spanish style and decorated as such with a good view/outlook to the harbour and Rangitoto Island.

We will definitely be back again soon. Was fantastic to find a restaurant where everyone was impressed with the yummy food.

Visited La Vista for brunch on a Saturday. The place was busy, but there were still tables available. We were comfortably seated near the front entrance so we had a good view of the bay and Rangitoto in the distance.

Service was prompt although, I'm a little unsure about their friendliness. I wouldn't say that the service was terrible as the waitstaff were rather competent. But it wasn't the best either. Maybe one or two smiles from the staff would help?

The food though, was really good and flavourful. I thoroughly enjoyed their version of the big breakfast. The chorizo was spicy, eggs cooked well, yummy mushrooms, I could go on. We also ordered a bowl of mussels to share which was really tasty. I thought it was better than the Belgian Beer cafe's versions.

It's been a while since I've been out for brunch and wasn't too sure where to go. Especially since we were taking some overseas guests out. I'm quite happy we ended up in La Vista. You get your usual brunch choices but you also can opt for their other not so traditional ones like the Spanish omelette etc.

The price of the meals here are on the overall, are more expensive. However, the portions do reflect the price and are quite big. So you could always share if you can't finish a whole portion to yourself.

Oh yeah, their hot chocolate was also really good. So hard to find a good hot chocolate these days.

I can't believe the reviews about unfriendly staff. It may have been unfriendly customers translating the expressions on a waiter the wrong way.
I've been to la vista many times because i live in St Heliers, the food is very nice, they have great dinner specials and I'd specially recommend the Sunday brunch, those are to die for!
I'm having dinner there tomorrow night and I can't wait.

My friends and I just had a hard morning's work when we entered this establishment. We are shift workers and had woken up at 3 a.m. We wanted to have coffee and ordered coffee from an unwelcoming member of the staff.

She never smiled and had a serious look to her face giving us the idea that she did not care about what we wanted to order. Her demeanour and facial expression delivered the message: "Hurry up with your order because I don't have all day!".

The next customer had to wait for 15 minutes for her order and she had to approach the staff to follow up. She got the same treatment.

I suggest that if you want to have coffee, food or friendly service, go elsewhere.

I've eaten here twice with different experiences.
The first was better, prompting us to return.
On the first occasion the soup was too hot to eat without leaving to cool, but well worth the wait. My soup second time around needed re-heating and was a little dull after all the anticipation.
Note to staff - the establishment you work in is advertised as welcoming children. It's difficult work entertaining a toddler and enjoying your food/coffee. A repeatedly dropped toy is not a major incident - don't treat it as such. Particularly when you're not busy.
