Went there with family and I ordered a Nigiri set, the fish was not fresh and I could not eat it.
I told the waitress about the fish, and hope they could do something about it.
I asked the waitress to try it if they doubted me.
The owner came out in rage and said all their fish were purchased the morning they were served and tried to show me the receipt of their fish purchase, insisted his fishes were fresh.
I got his point, but I was very disappointed for being shout at and not giving the chance to properly plea my case of the off fish (which I ended up having paying for).
This was a restaurant which our family used to dine regularly (least once every two months), for a complaint not properly handled by the owner, the restaurant has lost a valuable customer over a Nigiri set which was a shame.
This restaurant is not recommended.
Very limited menu, very noisy and nasal sounding woman shrieking in the kitchen at all times, waitress told me i was wrong when I sent my drink back (it wasn't what I ordered). Not great. But then, the bento box I ordered (we were there for dinner, I thought bento was a lunchtime thing?) was tasty - very tender prawns, everything nicely done. however, even i know that sashimi should be sliced very thin - it was waaaaay too thick. overall, a basic neighbourhood restaurant doing a pretty rough job of catering to a western audience.
We had four people and went to Kyo-Ya Japanese Restaurant on a Tuesday. We booked in advance on Monday; the tables set up for us were in a corner which isolated from the others, and the set up is quite strange and we have to re-arrange and move the table around and make sure we sit together like having a proper dinner. Food ok, very hot, but taste was just ok, not impressed or not depressed.
We had tempura, Kasudon, sushi, udon and salmon. One of the waitresses attitude was not very good...If you are thinking to go there, I suggested you can go to the one in Wairau Park beside Nandos...
