Top notch. Gets the full five stars because the overall atmosphere and impression is right up there compared with other pubs and venues in the area. Food is good, staff are friendly and courteous even when it gets busy and demanding around rugby games, and the decor is simply splendid.
Rugby season, Blues hosting the Crusaders and a rugby atmosphere is what you're after...is there a better place than the Kingslander? It's been an institution for Eden Park regulars for ages and there's little wonder why.
They also don't look to pack the punters in - definitely a good sign when businesses can essentially turn away custom.
If you're heading to a game (or coming from one), make sure you get in early on game day and soak up the atmosphere at the Kingslander - good times.
The Kingslander in Kingsland is the perfect rugby pub. We headed along here after The Blues game at Eden Park, didn't have to wait to long to get in, easy to get to the bar and the band were awesome. Definitely recommended!
We went for brunch to the Kingslander today using an offer from a voucher site. My girlfriend has french toast, which she said didn't particularly taste like French toast. I had the eggs and bacon. Eggs were poached well, shame about the rest of the dish. Toast was awful and dry (you would expect better from a $15 brunch) and was cheap. Coffee was nothing spectacular. Service was slow, but at least the waitress / bar girl had the manners to apologise for the delayed service. Still, paying that amount for a brunch, we definitely won't be returning to the Kingslander....serious improvement required!
Went to the Kingslander last night for a few quiet drinks with a friend. Managed to get a spot by the fire - really nice and relaxing and perfect for that catchup. Everywhere else in Kingland was dead and although the Kingslander wasnt full by any means, still a pretty good atmosphere. Looking forward to securing my place by the fire at the Kingslander on a few more occasions over the winter!
Went to the Kinglander before last night's Kiwis vs Kangaroos league match, and after the performance and Eden Park's disastrous cash only policy (and the fact that the cash outlet was down) - I wish we'd stayed and saved the $50!
'True' pint glasses, friendly staff (even if it was heaving) and big screens everywhere make the Kinglander one of those bars that make sport watching very enjoyable.
The Kingslander is definitely a bar for drinking and watching rugby - not for eating. I ordered the steak burger which was as tough as an old rugby boot. Over the road is Handmade Burger - if you're hungry, go there! The mrs had a falafel burger, not bad but your better off going to a kebab shop. The Kingslander only seems busy when the rugby is on... I wonder why?!
Only a few times, most recently for Friday drinks. Not the place to go to meet a group friends. We were treated very unfairly and members of our group were removed by the bouncers unnecessarily and without reason. Definitely not a place for dancing and having fun.
