We had breakfast here at Kahve last week before round the bays where our band was the entertainment on the main stage. They treated us like the celebrities we are, every order we changed on them, lots of coffees and they coped with everything just fine. They even gave us walk-ins a reserved table with the best view. Very friendly and welcoming, seemed genuinely interested in us, I recommend going to Kahve and we will tell all of our friends.
The location and the views are great. Other than that the place is terrible. The worst part is the staff. They are the most unfriendly….verging on angry….group of restaurant employees I have ever come across. Even the owner, who is there quite a bit, acts as though he is annoyed by his patrons. They only take cash..no eftpos or credit cards. Went with some friends this morning and could not believe how rude the waitress was. She just didn’t care at all…it was as if the customers were there simply to aggravate her. She was so rude it was almost funny! We sat for 15-20 min. before she took our order. When the food arrived she just plopped it down on the table and strutted off. Never came back to ask how it was or refill our water glasses..which we really wanted. The attitude of the staff kills this place. Food is mediocre at best. Have been there several times and it’s always the same. Today will be the last day I ever step foot in the place! Kahve would be closed for sure if it was not for the attractive location.
Recently I have visited Kahve Cafe in St Heliers for a Friday lunch. The cafe was busy being it a sunny day. My food arrived reasonably quickly and was good but had to wait for our coffees quite a while.
I took my friends from America to Kahve and we all enjoyed the experience. While the restaurant was a little noisy due to the acoustics the excellent food and service more than made up for this. We are all keen to return.
Friendly and professional staff, good service, great coffee - an excellent place to eat.
I'm a St Heliers local, and like many people from the area, I enjoy the cafe options in the Bay. Unfortunately, Kahve is now definitely off my list.
From the outset the noise level at Kahve hits you. The wooden floor and crammed main dining room magnify every screech and bang of the kitchen and the tables, and even the closed in deck area cannot escape it.
The external marquee-type shelter was filthy, so the bay was a blur behind the smudges. The meals were overpriced, and my choice, the eggs benedict, came with no option of spinach, and excessively fatty bacon. Top the whole experience off with no EFTPOS (why?), and it makes for a very average Sunday brunch.
There are so many reasons why St Heliers Bay is one of Auckland's best destinations, but Kahve is not one of them.
Kahve is a great place for a Saturday morning brunch, great food, great coffee.
