Delicious yum cha at very reasonable prices! Quick and friendly service as well even when the place was filled to the brim!

Jade Dragon is a fairly new Chinese restaurant in the Sky City complex with the entrance overlooking the main Sky City Foyer. I have always been fond of Chinese cuisine but by this I don’t mean the takeaway bars, one of my favourite dishes is whole roast duck with spring onions, cucumber, hoi sin sauce and pancakes. I have always voiced that the dish is not as readily available is NZ as it is in the UK, possibly due to the number of Chinatowns scattered around the UK. When you do find it here the cost is usually more than I am willing to pay considering I often dine with a vegetarian. We were greeted at the door by the friendly restaurant manager who was helpful when it came to our issues regarding vegetarian food as there was hardly anything listed on the menu. He told us it was no problem and that they would certainly create something for us. The décor had an old fashioned but new feeling which added to the atmosphere. The restaurant begins with a long balcony (this is the part that overlooks the foyer) and leads into a back area which is initially wall to wall with huge fish tanks leading to the main room which then has 3 or 4 private rooms. A nice layout, the only thing I didn’t enjoy about Jade Dragon was the fact that the fish tanks were all completely empty. Is this because it’s Sunday and they sold out on Saturday, I fear not? Our table had a nice view looking at the Sky Tower itself and not the hustle and bustle of the street. The menu was extensive and it was great to see something different to the usual Chinese restaurants. It had an aura of quality when reading through it, Crayfish, Kina, Paua to name a few, not just your usual sweet a

Had dinner last night at Jade Dragon and the food was terrific. Hadn't heard much about the restaurant really before we meet up with friends who were staying the Skycity Grand.Service was attentive without being annoying, and decor quite sleek. The four of us started with some dim sum platters and then into the mains - I was very satisfied with my order of the stir fried pork fillet with snow peas although my partners pork ribs with honey sauce were also splendid.Do try Jade Dragon out - it is fairly pricey but well worth it.

Jade Dragon (formerly Ming Court) is now al la carte yum char (as opposed to all you can eat) and originally I was disappointed at this fact – as I felt that it was nice to have an all you can eat yum char in Akl CBD (point of difference). A friend and I have just been and tried the new a la carte yum char and we were pleasantly surprised! The interior is much more pleasant and has been revamped and has a nice atmosphere. All the dumplings were much tastier, in particular the prawn and spinach and pork siu mai were delicious! We felt the service was 10x better than previously, and found the waiting staff to be friendly, helpful and knowledgable. They came around to check if there was anything else we would like or they could do and replenished our Chinese tea often. All in all one of the best yum char experiences I’ve had yet! We ate until we were completely full and the bill was only $5 more than the all you can eat price. We will definitely be back, happy to pay slighly more for superior food and impeccable service!

Simply terrific! I know it's opening week and all but if Jade Dragon keeps up the level of service that we experienced last night and the quality of the food remains the same then I'm convinced Jade Dragon will be amongst the best Chinese Restaurants in Auckland.
Next time I think we'll try their yum-char and take our chinese friends who are probably the best placed to judge. Well done Jade Dragon!
