The ViewAuckland Review
iVillage, Victoria Park Precinct - Restaurant Review
The Food
Don’t be put off by the Apple-style name – iVillage is the home of superb Indian food. We can highly recommend the Gosht Madras (succulent and oh-so-tender chunks of lamb cooked in coconut cream with dried chillis and curry leaves) and the Handi Chicken, which packs a spicy punch with the gorgeous taste of coriander and cumin mixed with tingly hot tomato. If you love goat, their Balti Dum Goat is a knockout. The naan stretches beautifully and isn’t too heavy (though one can easily sate two people) and best not to forget their lovely and generous raita and mango chutney condiments.
Drinks
A wine list of good length with a lot of ‘by the glass’ options, and a standard range of beers which perhaps could do with a few more exotic options.
Vibe
Exposed brick and a warm glow in one of Victoria Park Market’s renovated buildings. It’s got a real buzz to it, especially when it’s a nice night and the outdoor area is filled with tables. It’s just a shame that there aren’t more restaurants around it to carry this on.
Service
Possibly just a touch slow on our last visit, but generally very prompt and friendly.
Highlights
This is a bit random, but their takeaway portions are very generous and come in the most reusable of containers – great for lunchboxes!
The Bottom Line
There’s no other way to say it – iVillage is THE best Indian in Auckland. We cannot wait to go again.
