Great café tucked away in a residential area. Great food, and great coffee. Really well set up for kids - separate room partially closed off so kids can't run straight out the door when you're not looking.

Impressed on my first visit to Humbug. It was very busy so there was quite a wait for food but when it arrived my Peach and Strawberry Smoothie and Vegetarian Breakfast (with a choice of bread options given!) was lovely. Lots of yummy goodies in the cabinet and toys to keep kids entertained.
I have been to this restaurant now on two occasions, and both times have been very impressed. The food is excellent, and the coffee is good. Not the best coffee in West Auckland, but still definitely up there.
The food is well made and very well presented. Full of flavour with generous servings, it made up for any shortcomings with the coffee.
The coffee as I said was not the best, and they use organic sugar, Whilst this is fine, I like my coffee with brown or raw sugar, and having the option would be good.
Instead of using the traditional table numbers, they use wooden spoons. These fit into the homestead wood theme very nicely, and alongside the children's play area, the owners have clearly given serious thought to their clientele.
I would recommend this as a good place to meet before picking the children up from school, though I would tend not to meet clients here, as it is a little too informal. However, this works well given the area, and I will definitely be returning on a regular basis.
Went to Humbug today with my sister and her new baby, after reading about it in the Herald Viva mag. It was just what we were looking for - a warm, cosy cafe with plenty of space, natural light, friendly staff, and of course great food and coffee. I really enjoyed my flat white, and I liked the fact that although it was served in a vintage teacup it wasn't tiny like a lot coffees seem to be lately! We shared a chicken, blue cheese and walnut roll and a delicious pumpkin spice cake, but it was one of those places where the counter food all looked so yummy that it was hard to choose. This is a family friendly place with a funky suburban vibe - suits us and we'll definitely be back!
