I was in a hurry and bought a wrap/foldover thingy. There was no relish or mayo, a little bit of lettuce, some grated cheese and a few bits of beef that were mostly gristle. It was hard and dry and I binned it.
If I hadn't taken it away I would have asked for a refund. I wrote to them - they don't have email - but they didn't respond. $7.50 for inedible food. Well done Hardware Cafe, I won't be back.
Having been a Titirangi local for years I can say The Hardware is always solid in their food and service. I had the Portobello mushrooms with blue cheese and walnuts and while it was a little on the rich side for early morning, the mushrooms were cooked perfectly and it was a nice variation on mushrooms which frequent many brunch menus. The coffee was great, and the service was lacking the pretentiousness that is found in many Ponsonby and central cafes.
Great Coffee and always a smile. What more do you need in your local.
Had a horrible experience here today. Went here with my husband, and daughter for a late lunch. Ordered "Sweetcorn and Bacon Fritters"- when my meal arrived it had ONE tiny slice of "crispy colonial bacon" on my plate. Continued to eat the rest of the meal hoping more bacon would be hiding within the fritters- there was no more to be found. As I was hungry I continued to eat my meal regardless. This was the point where I SHOULD have said something- I acknowledge that. We lined up to pay and I asked for the menu to DOUBLE CHECK that my "Sweetcorn and BACON Fritters" were supposed to have bacon on it- of course there was supposed to be as the title is self-explanatory in itself. I said "My meal only had half-a finger sized bacon on it"- This was cruely met a piercing-evil STARE by the cashier and the barista who decided to join. The both said " what do you want us to do about !? You should have said something earlier- we could have cooked you more bacon, you've had your meal now, its too late." This statement was rather accusative and had a tinge of "you're lying and you are soo submissive only saying something about it NOW". I gave both of them upset stare- tears about the roll down my eyes. Picked up my child - said "nothing" in response to their accusatory "what do you expect me to do!?". My husband proceeded to pay and the cashier continued to attack him - " why didn't you just say something?! it's alright to say something" Well the fact is- we did complain- only to be met with their horrible attitude! What happened to " the customer is always right?". Ruined a lovely day at the Waitakere Ranges. I will tell everyone I know to avoid this horrible café and its staff. The least I would have expected is a "sorry- it won't happen again". So horrible!!!
Very disappointed with this cafe. Went to order an onion tart and found out, after receiving it - that it had beef in it. I am a vegetarian so naturally I found this upsetting. I think it is shocking that an ingredient like beef would not be mentioned in the meal description. A staff member replaced my meal with a dessert of my choice (was certain that a dessert wouldn't contain meat so I chose one). Definitely would not recommend the Hardware Cafe to anyone with an alternative diet. The staff were friendly however and my friend enjoyed his ham panini.
Consistently great coffee and good food. Place looking a bit tired but happy customers around you make up for this. what happened to the TOOL ROOM??
Food ok, service ok, Bossy woman who must have been the manager not ok. She seemed rude and over her job. Personally I think the Hardware could do with a change, maybe some form of entertainment???
Hardware Cafe is excellent. They have amazing dinners and desserts. Definitely a must visit.
A cool place for breakfast. An oasis in a West Auckland cafe wasteland. The Bushman's breakfast is the biggie with everything and it did the unthinkable - made my hangover bearable on New Year's Day. Cheers Hardware!
