Grand Harbour in the Viaduct Harbour serves up a great selection of yum cha food that rates highly in terms of taste and quality. That's if they actually don't run out before they reach your table.
One thing that bugs me about this place is how busy it gets. Particularly if you get there around lunch time (noon onwards) on a weekend (pure madness). As a result, you may have to wait a while for your table and may not be able to get your hands on your favourites, eg. yum cha staples, "siu mai" (pork & prawn dumpling) and "har gau"(prawn dumpling).
This can be remedied though if you have enough patience and perseverance to bug every wait-staff member that comes to your table and ask them for what you want. (note: May take asking about 6 waitstaff members before you get it)
I rate the food here 5 out of 5 stars, but in terms of service, only 3 out of 5.
I recommend that you go in for the earlier yum cha session (about 11-11.30am) but just be aware that you'll have a time limit on how long you can stay. Also, try avoid being given tables right at the end of the restaurant. It's like a black hole sometimes, void of the good stuff.
After a horrible experience at a restaurant near by we decided to try Grand Harbour and were delighted with our experience. The staff were warm and welcoming and attended to all our wishes. These were many as we were a group of 10 with children.
We decided to return the next day for lunch and enjoyed the best dim sum we have had. We travel to Asia frequently and very highly rate Grand Harbour.
Thank you so much for helping us to forget a horrible experience earlier in the evening.
I went to the yum cha lunch menu & filled my appetite with so many delectable sample-sized treats. You must see for yourself the large range of dishes that Grand Harbour has to offer especially if you havn't tried yum cha cuisine already. The service is very prompt with the friendly staff frequently asking you to try dishes & overall the food was well-worth the money.
