Went to GPK for lunch with work friends and really enjoyed my pork belly main. Everyone enjoyed their lunch from pizza to steaks and the staff were attentive and helpful with matching wine selections. The express lunch menu was also very economical and attractive for those looking to have a quality meal but are short on time.
The staff are friendly and welcoming and the bar area is very pleasant for a pre-dinner drinks. We weren't so keen on the tacky protective table covers and the service could be better - eg although food arrived in a timely manner (though it wasn't busy), old wine glasses weren't cleared when new ones arrive. I've been to GPK Ponsonby a few times over the last 3 years and whilst this time the pizza was nice (can be a bit hit and miss) I can't see that they've changed the menu in that time!!!! Perhaps this would explain the lack of customers... they're bored of the menu too!
Very enjoyable experience, service was great, and meals were delicious. The only thing was our meal took quite awhile to get to us.
I have gone to GPK for years and it never fails to deliver. The smoked chicken salad is so fantastic and the staff always friendly, attentive and intuitive. Also very kid friendly which is important for our 3 year old. And the chocolate brownie is to die for. Great wine selection too. GPK can always count on my custom.
After hearing so many good things about GPK, and in particular their brunch menu, we were quite keen to try this Ponsonby Road institution. About five of us had brunch at GPK on Sunday and all bar one of us came away disappointed. I had the Spanish Omelette which was vastly different from the great, filling-packed omelettes I had in Spain. My sister-in-law was also disappointed with her eggs bene - the only saving grace was the good coffee and friendly bar staff! Maybe it was just an off day so will try GPK again some day.
I popped in here during the Christmas break for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. I had expected a 'wanky' and 'pretentious' Ponsonby restaurant/bar, but was met with polite staff, efficient service and mixed clientele. Would definitely recomend it to anyone.
