had a business lunch at Gion Japanese in Parnell today and came away not only full but pleasantly surprised and regretting not visiting this eatery sooner. Had a selection of sashimi, tempura, miso and a few other options - all very fresh and served with a smile. Japanese cuisine is perfect for these sorts of business meetings imo - and Gion Japanese really does hit the mark well.
This place has a really nice atmosphere and is good for celebrations but is a bit overpriced and therefore one cannot warrant going frequently. however, on the times that I have been there, the food has generally been tasty (especially the sukiyaki pot and the teriyaki chicken). Not extremely filling though and you would need multiple dishes to be able to fill yourself up and therefore, not as great value for money in my opinion. Best to go when sharing with a couple of friends to be able to try out a variety while keeping the bill reasonable when split.
My girlfriend and I dined here late on a Friday night. We loved it! It had a great authentic Japanese feel. Quiet, warm and comfortable atmosphere. The staff were extremely polite and helpful. The service was very fast and efficient the best i've ever had. The food tasted great and was presented perfectly. Good prices too. Definitely recomend this restaurant!! And free parking close by :)
I booked here for Mothers Day a week and a half before the "BIG DAY'. When we turned up we were told that we did not have a booking, the woman at the front desk was rude and really didn't care that they had made a mistake and spoiled our evening, funny (or unfunny) thing was this was the third time it had happened here. Well as it goes three strikes and your out! we wont be trying to book at this place again. You might want to ring at least twice before you go!
