Lovely and warm over winter which is a novelty, for some reason alot of cafes love leaving their front door open so it's freezing inside, just because the staff are hot I guess. Gala was bright, airy, staff were friendly and helpful, food was fast, coffee tasted great, and I'm really fussy about my soy latte!
I had the Julie le clerc pancakes and while different with oats and wholemeal flour, they were really tasty.
My husband had the eggs benny and he said they were nice but not the best he'd had.
We will be back to Gala Cafe to try the brioche French toast!
Decided to go and see what all the fuss was about as Gala Cafe has been given excellent reviews in the past. We found parking difficult as we were unsure if we could park in the car parks outside gala and ended up parking on the street. I ordered the raw energy salad which was mostly shredded cos lettuce with an olive oil dressing for $18, was OK but nothing special it needed salt, a tasty dressing and maybe some gourmet leafs to lift it to the next level. Also had a banana and lychee smoothie which was good and i liked the touch of cinnamon on top. I would rate Gala Cafe at 7/10
Gala Cafe is a perfectly fine cafe - the kind you can find in most streets in any town - for it to be selected as the best cafe in Auckland is staggering. Food is fine (raw energy salad was mostly shredded cos lettuce for $18, side of portobello mushrooms = exactly three lonely mushies), coffee is fine, service is average, location is ordinary in the middle of an office block. All perfectly acceptable for your average morning coffee and eggs. But Metro's supreme winner!? Are you serious??
Decided to go and see what all the fuss was about as Gala Cafe has been given excellent reviews in the past. Upon arrival warmly greeted and quickly led to a table. Coffee was spot on as we ventured into the menu - very interesting, didn't know what to choose I wanted everything...... I decided on the Swiss bircher muesli mmmmmmmm, my friends went for the Moroccan salad and the gala spa salad. My muesli was delicious quite possibly the best I've had in any city! My friends also opted for healthy options and proclaimed their salads to be very fresh and tasty. The counter was just to amazing to pass us by, laden with home made sweet treats , we all indulged of course ! All I can say is we will be back to Gala Cafe. The crew at gala have got it right and quite possibly the previous reviewer I think was pretty much having a bad day! Thanks gala you rock!!!
Went to Gala Cafe as we heard it won cafe of the year last year. The general consensus at the end of our meal was that we would rather have been mugged - a mugger would have made more effort to relieve us of our money. There was absolutely no care or love in any of the food that was served. When a side of avocado and tomato came out and consisted of a quarter of avocado and a whole, cold tomato just sitting on the plate we didn't know whether to eat it or through it toward the kitchen in disgust that they couldn't even be bothered to cut it in half at least. As for the sardines on toast - a 5 year old could pull the tab off a can of fish and slap it on a plate with some dry toast. I know it is trendy to serve sardines in the can, but more effort was needed than the way this was presented for an insulting $19. The steak sandwich was swimming in so much aioli that it had to be scraped off before the sandwich could be eaten. The floor staff looked like they would rather be somewhere else.Where is the love...... I think it has packed it's bags and moved to Melbourne.
