Went in for a Sunday lunch, as was driving past and my wife and i enjoy Speights beer. Being exceptionally hungry we decided to order the entree of garlic bread and our mains at the bar, we were told there may be a small wait as they were very busy. Now I'm all cool with that 10 mins for garlic bread, a rough estimate then 20-30 for the rest of our meal. As we looked around i wondered how they said they were busy i walked around the entire bar and there were 22 people in there at 2.30 on a Sunday afternoon of which half were on desserts, busy, what? WELL after 25minutes no food, 30 minutes no food, 35 minutes my fish and chips and wife's risotto come out, no entree? i ask where it is they come back with the excuse there has been a mix up in the kitchen sorry here it is with the mains. What? if i wanted it at the same time i would have asked why was there no communication about this prior to our mains arriving. They then quickly took away my wife's risotto saying there was cheese in it, that she had asked for it without cheese was annoying as i am now letting my food get cold son she won't eat alone 'if her food came back' it did and a small and unconvincing apology with a gesture that we won't have to pay for the garlic bread (I've already paid at the bar) so i ask for some drinks (stupidly assuming they would be free as they had messed us around so much/which would show that maybe they gave a damn about customers) and then the waiter has the cheek to say they will only be charging us $4 for the drinks as that is the difference with the garlic bread. uhhh NEVER GOING BACK!!!! My one question i left with was WHERE WAS THE MANAGER ON DUTY? If customers are getting awful service, your kitchen is in a mess, you say it's busy when it's blatantly not, why are you not talking to irritated customers and perhaps doing a bit of HOSPITALITY!
Went to this pub for my Birthday this year, and was shocked at how the staff treated us.We had a birthday cake sent before hand by my parents. When we got there and the waitress brought out the cake there was no smile or nothing from her truthfully it was like she was a dead fish. She basically threw the cake on the table with a loud thud and said "Happy Birthday!" in the most sarcastic way as if we were nothing. The staff were rude and UN -friendly to say the least.Hope they get better staff soon.Would not recommend to a freind anytime soon.
Visited this pub with friends on Saturday night. Very disappointed! No atmosphere at all. The staff seemed to think that our business was an inconvenience, seeing as there was only a handful of other patrons at the bar their lack of friendly service was extremely poor! Won't be going back!
Such great food and service! Haven't been in since the place was all done up but it looks amazing- they've really done the old building a justice. Welcomed by friendly staff when we arrived and looked after throughout lunch by a friendly english guy. It was a works lunch but ill definitely be back for dinner, especially after spotting the kids dine free sign outside the front.
Visited the Sunday of labour weekend.A few people sitting in the courtyard taking in the late afternoon sun.Enough menu choices to satisfy most palates. Between 2 we shared a garlic bread ,which arrived within 5 minutes of ordering.Very tasty with lots of garlic butter, nice and moist and the bread was toasted to perfection.5slices ample for 2.Dishes removed promptly.A short wait before the next course arrived.3 Star pie with fries and mushy peas ( from the light menu) arrived hot and full with lots of chunky tender meat and a light gravy. Next came the Kaitangata Pork Spareribs with potato's. 8 large ribs with nearly as much meat on them as you get with a chop, very meaty and once again very tasty.Glad there was a finger bowl. This in itself would feed 2 or maybe 2 and a child.Time for the dessert menu.Looked at it but decided we couldn't really do it justice.Next time bar snacks and the the Creme Brulee (who says it went out in the 90's didn't know what they were talking about). Will be back with a group to indulge in more goodies.Friendly & courteuos staff.
