My 3rd visit here was on Friday night not long before it closed and before heading to a Comedy. I took a friend who hadn't been before. We decided on 3 salad bowls - Rad Thai bowl, Salmon Noodle Bowl and Beetroot bowl (meatballs). All 3 were tasty and pretty to look at. The Rad Thai had a load more greens than chicken unfortunately. The service was quick as usual and the tap wine from Marlborough was surprisingly good. Its certainly a different menu from my previous two visits in which there were more things in the way of burgers and hot dogs. Its a funky easy place that I am sure I will stop by at again sometime in the future.

Had a great dinner at the Food truck Garage! I had the Burger Bowl with the Vegetarian Pattie. There were so many delicious elements to this salad. It was awesome to be able to go out and have a delicious meal that fresh, healthy, and filling. The staff were also very fun and created a great atmosphere.

Finally got down to the Food Truck Garage this week and will definitely be back.

Had the Kale Cesar which was surprisingly filling and the frozen yoghurt with dark chocolate almonds and Goji berries for only $3 was just divine!

Perfect for a mid week catch up with friends :)

The Food Truck Garage is a great place, cool feel and chill ambience. The food is amazing! We had a delicious slider with kumara chips and yogurt for dessert. It was a lovely experience to remember and a reason to keep coming back for more.

I've been a couple of times now to Food Truck Garage and it has a great feel about it. Cool to see The Food Truck from the TV Show too. Love their Sodas and small plates which means you get to sample a number of great things. The carpark being on meters is the only downer.

Finally got a chance to try the Food Truck Garage after months spent trying to find an excuse to get there and pleased to say I wasn't disappointed in the slightest. It's a hive of activity and this commotion really helps with the overall vibe of this eatery. The menu is small but there were quite a number of items I could have easily chosen - I ended up choosing the fish burger which was deliciously fresh as well as 'the works' yougurty thing... in fairness I thought I was ordering a drink but this was actually quite a pleasant surprise.
If the food at the Food Truck Garage is as healthy as I assume it is - I'll find more excuses to be back!

A couple of us met for lunch and a catch up at the Food Truck Garage. The restaurant was busy but we didn't have to wait for a table. The ambience was buzzy and the service quick. I can appreciate that the Food Truck specialises in healthy food, but lets face it - fat = flavour and overall this was somewhat lacking. The beetburger was tasty and smaller than the average burger. The potatoes and beet oven roasted vege were good. The chicken salad was a decent size but I didn't much enjoy the big, thin slices of raw beet. The dressing on the salad was not as good as creamy dressing. The honey and mint drinks were tasty and the coffee was good.

Went to Food Truck Garage for lunch with a bunch of workmates - it was unbelievably busy! We were really lucky to get the last free table in the house and while we were there there were often people lining up outside waiting for a table.... so seeing this busy I though it must be great. We ordered and our food came surprisingly quickly for how busy it was.I ordered the chicken and vege salad. The first thing I noticed was that it was absolutely drenched in a thick creamy dressing. I like my salads well dressed - I can't imagine anyone actually likes munching on dry greens - but this was way overkill. You could barely see the colour of the veges and the chicken, it was all a creamy orange colour from being covered in so much dressing. So I'd recommend if you order a salad ask for the dressing on the side! Secondly, the salad was pretty much just a heap of greens with chicken and dressing. There was a decent amount of chicken, but I would have liked some more actual veges. Ok, so the greens were silverbeet and silverbeet is a vege, but the only other vege was a few paper thin slices of beetroot and swede. Overall, for $12 I wasn't particularly impressed but I did walk away full. One of my colleages had the chicken burger which apparently was very nice. It did look nice and was a good size but didn't come with anything. Not even a bit of salad and for the price I'd say boo to that. Looking round we noticed that the hot dogs also don't come with any thing, and at $8 a pop that seems a bit off to me. If to took my husband here we'd have to order him 2 hotdogs and a plate of the fries-that-aren't-fries (they are roated potato/ kumara/ swede but still very nice by all accounts) which would make for a pretty expensive lunch. All in all, a pretty average experience and I won't be insisting we make it a regular lunch venue.

I went there for a second visit in August. First visit was in the daytime, not long after opening and it was very busy; too busy to appreciate as we ended up on bar type bench squashed in corner and ignored by stressed wait staff.

Second visit we actually managed to get a table to ourselves and wait staff not flustered and able to explain the menu.
The place was bustling and it was great to see the open plan kitchen where food was being prepared.

Friend had prawn tacos, declared totally yummy. I had beefroot burger which looked like an uncooked burger due to purply presence of lots of beetroot, it was absolutely delicious. Shared bowls of baked chips and slaw which were both very moorish.
Portion sizes were recommended by not too pushy wait staff, "share the baked chips"
The plates were funky enamel and made us wish we were living in a combi van!
It was evening so we had wine from limited menu (one white and one red), $8 or $9 a glass was pleasing price for city eatery. Beverages much better then the slightly strong lavender laden coke drink from previous visit.
Overall: reasonably priced and delicious food. We felt great as we had eaten very tasty non greasy fare.

Food Truck Garage offers a reasonably affordable "eat out" option. However, the cost can build up though depending on what you order.

The highlight of the evening for me were their spelt buns, absolutely delicious and coupled with the paua dog, mmm.. Yum! Definitely give the paua dog a go.

The 13 spice chicken was tasty. But uhmm, sacrilegious I know, but I still prefer KFC's herbs and spices flavour. Haha! The benefit of the Food Truck's was the lack of grease and less salt though!

The food was really tasty. So although there's "less salt", there's no compromise with the flavours.

Not too impressed with their drinks. But well, at least it's healthy I suppose.

I'm going back for more of their hot dogs.

This was probably one of the more interesting dining experiences in a while for me. Taken straight from the TV series The Food Truck Garage (which I didn’t see a minute of so it was nice going into the eatery unbiased and unknowing) opened in the same food court/car park as Best Ugly bagels.
We came on a day that Chef Mike Van de Elzen was running the kitchen himself which wasn’t surprising as it is a work in progress as not everything is quite set up yet for example desserts and hot drinks are not yet available. Their emphasis in on reasonably quick but mainly healthier food using less salt, sugar and fat.
There were three of us and we ordered a mixture of dishes, along with the homemade cola which was completely different from the teeth rotting red can and instead it was a honey laden yellow drink which I would like a 2 litre bottle of!
There were some highs and lows with the food, undoubtedly I was the lucky one as my Paua dog was a nice alternative and my chicken arms with 13 spices was delicious and I would love a bucket of them every night. Guest 1 had pita crisps which had a few dips with it that were a bit average but the spinach and pumpkin burger was tasty and moist which made up for the pita crisps. Finally guest 2 had autumn rolls and baked chips. The baked chips aren’t what you think in fact they are very well roasted swedes, potatoes and beetroot. Very healthy very delicious however we didn’t get any beetroot in our portion. Unfortunately the autumn rolls were poor and the only thing I would describe as bad in the whole meal. Just lacked flavour and the flavours present weren’t great usually these rolls are fresh and packed with flavour like mint, chilli or coriander. Never mind though out of all that food this was the only bad item.
Overall I can’t wait until it’s fully up and running to give them another go as this could become an iconic Auckland eatery.

Chef Mike Van de Elzen is bringing the much loved TVNZ Food Truck series to life. The casual eatery is all about healthy fast food with the menu focusing on healthy versions of classic fast food featured on and inspired by the television series including burgers, baked fries and homemade sodas.

Adding to the transparency of the food is an open kitchen with state-of-the-art appliances. And the famous Food Truck is on show just outside the garage serving food too. With simple furniture that reminds me of being a school.

This is the place to go if you want to eat something that seems naughty but is really quite healthy with a great taste. The menu is simple and short which makes it easier to decide but I got something across the menu and it was all good and cute diner presentation.

You can't make a reservation here but it wasn't hard to get a table even though it was bustling. Turnover of tables is pretty quick as you would think it would be for fast food. Just pity I didn't get to meet Mike.
