Popped into the deli for a pre-show dinner last night and really enjoyed it. Had a table for 5 of us outside but it started to rain, so luckily we were able to move inside. The place has a nice, busy vibe - not a lot of room but it is cosy and fun. The food is simple and delicious. Fresh sandwiches with really good quality ingredients, and yummy deli specialties like the matzo ball soup and of course, poutine! Fantastic fries with gravy and cheese curds - we had no problem polishing off two plates!

We did not make a booking but left our mobile number at the door. They would call us when there was a table. An hour later we were called and arrived with high expectations. Food was quick and service very efficient and friendly. Personally I thought the the food was good, but not amazing. However we would go again more likely for brunch. To be fair, it does what the ad says and does it well. Good American deli food fast and fun. Authentic decor even down to the girls uniforms and makeup! A long wait for a table but it is pretty popular, so we would expect that next time. Bottomless coffee is a winner!

May it be with a group of people, with someone or just by yourself. This place suits all. Been here three times and loved all of them. Great food and service. :) I love the feel of this place very much as well!

We will be returning. The staff were very attentive and no one appeared to have any issue with us bringing a pram into the restaurant.

We had few of the smaller items on the menu and my partner raved about the Matzo Ball soup and said that the Street Dog was the best he has ever eaten. I had the Chicken Salad Sandwich and half was enough to full me up.

American dining right in the heart of the city. If a place seems always busy, you know they're doing something right. Unlimited coffee? Beat that! Federal Delicatessen striked me as a little upbeat and punky. If that's the mood you're going for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, then by all means! You won't get disappointed with the food or the service.

As soon as you walk through the front doors you feel like you have stepped into another time and place altogether, into the set of Grease. Jars of pickles and mustard line the shelves, waitresses wearing cute matching pastel-shaded uniforms rush around the restaurant.

This isn’t the casual American deli I expected, but how could it be under Al Brown’s wing, it's an authentic delicatessen where the menu is available all day till late.

The menu includes sandwiches, bagels, kettle soups, meats, rotisserie chicken and great American desserts.

We decided on a bit of everything as our group was sharing so we had the whole menu of starters, mains and sides. A plate of smoked brisket, pickles and mustard. The rich, pink meat had the perfect balance of smokiness and salt. A plate of fries came with gravy, and cheese, a style favoured in Canada, while a generous slab of turkey meatloaf was sweet and peppery and served with a delicate salad of granny smith and young celery heart. A veal schnitzel was outstanding, prepared with sage and lemon. The Lemon sole was cooked perfectly and very tasty and the NY strip steak was the highlight of the main meal. The salads were lovely and a better version than you get from most other places.

We all liked the whole selection of desserts (pies) so decided to get a piece of the whole lot and taste each of them. I loved the Lemon Meringue pie the best but liked the quirkiness of the popcorn that came with the Banana and Toffee Pie. Utter bliss! I’d go back in Winter time as I here they do Apple Pie.

The Fed is a old-school Jewish New York deli in the 1950s - yet it's cool and quirky and makes me want to return.

I've been looking for an excuse to go to Federal Delicatessen ever since it opened and after visiting it last Saturday, it seems I should be looking for more. It's awesome. Bottomless filter coffee (no mocha choc lattes here), a vibrant atmosphere (open kitchen, old skool booths and personality plus staff) and food that demands a repeat visit! I had the mish-mash (hash with a poached egg and pastrami) with mustard accompanying it - beautiful. My partner had the morning glory (yes, it is a dish) and that was awesome too.
Cant wait to make a second outing to Federal Delicatessen and a 3rd, 4th and 5th!

Loved my first visit to Al Browns new traditional style diner! Expected a long wait to get a table for two at 11.30am on a Saturday but managed to arrive shortly after a large clear out making the wait significantly shorter than the 20 minutes approximated by the hostess.

Impressed with the fit out including open kitchen, staff uniforms and the fact the male waiting staff had matching haircuts and an unshaven look to fit the theme. Bottomless Havana filtered coffee, blueberry pancakes and chocolate cherry pie were delish and while the service was slow they did give us two pieces of pie as they felt the first piece given to us was undersized.
