Seven of my Dining group and myself purchased deal vouchers that got us a 5 course degustation for 2 people for only $110. Well what a deal!!We arrived at a lovely renovated Villa to a cosy waiting area and got a friendly welcome and fantastic beverage list. We all sampled varying cocktails. Then went to our table which was in our own private area by a bay window. We didn't wait long before we started with a Tomato Gazpacho and fresh bread. Second course was smoked Snapper with coconut, lychee and plantain crisps. Such a pretty dish. All the while we were offered matching wines which us non drivers participated in. Third course was a mixed mushroom Risotto with truffle and Parmesan. Very tasty!Fourth course and the largest was Vanilla confit duck with orange sauce, Bok Choy and a kumara mash. The only disappointment for all of us was that the duck was a little chewy from perhaps not being slow cooked. We thought it was the one fail in all the courses.Dessert was raspberry and white chocolate Parfait with champagne marshmallow. A stunning looking dish and forced down because we were so full by then, but the flavours we just wanted to savour. The staff and ambiance were perfect and id definitely go again. Over all I would have rated Eight Point Two 5 stars if the duck was more succulent and actually fell from the bone.

A group of us were looking forward to our visit to Eight Point Two and we were sadly disappointed.
Initially we annoyed the waitress by opting not to have bottled water and this set the tone for the evening. The service was painfully slow waiting over an hour for entrees, when we ordered it was an almost empty restaurant. One of the pork belly entrees was 95% fat and 5% meat, complete contrast to the other pork belly entrees. When this was raised with the waitress she said "oh I know" and took it away. No apology was offered then or later through the meal, another entree choice was required.
The mains were average, the lamb overcooked a shame given how scarce this meat will be soon, and the deserts the same.
Eight Point Two positions itself at the higher end with prices that reflect, we were really looking forward to this treat, unfortunately we left disappointed and feeling ripped off.

On previous visits to Eight Point Two I've been very impressed by the food but on this occasion it was some what off the mark. I had the lamb as a main which was fatty with well underdone sprouts and served on a stone cold plate. My partner had the steak which was equally as fatty although his squid and chorizo starter was delicious. The service was excellent, unobtrusive yet attentive and the ambiance great. Disappointing, as other visits have delivered a far superior meal.

I was disappointed - the venue and service at Eight Point Two were fantastic but my food was average. I went for the set menu of the figs starter which was good, then the lamb which was tough and fatty finishing with the quince dessert which were even tougher than the meat. Shame!

A special occasion called for a special venue - and that's exactly what we got last night at the very impressive Eight. Two Restaurant in Birkenhead Point on the North Shore.

I'd reserved a table and asked for an intimate area - and to my delight they seated us at a lovely candle lit spot around the corner from the main dining area of the restaurant.

Impreccable service throughout the night, and the diligent staff we had serving us were a breath of fresh air.

We were recommended the Brunton Road Chardonnay ($50 or so) and we're pleasantly suprised...off top a good start indeed.

My partner (whose birthday we were celebrating) opted for the 3 course Spanish-themed menu which featured a chorizo dish to start, a chicken, monk fish and prawn main and a cinnamon and raisin icecream with a shot of sherry.

He absolutely raved about his meal, and although the portion sizes weren't excessive, for $65 we both felt it was reasonably priced for good quality, interesting food.

My options were equally as appealing - a Goat's Cheese terrine to start, lamb shanks as main and a chocolate brulee to finish - all exceptional!

The menu is fairly limited, but there's enough interesting options and variety to cater for most palates - definitely the best restaurant either of us have been to on the Shore - we'll most definitely be back to Eight. Two sometime soon!

I was lucky enough to visit Eight. Two Restaurant on Tuesday night with classic hits.

The service here is excellent, when you enter you are greeted by a man that takes your coat and offers you a wine/beer.

You are seated and greeted with a scrumptous menu. At the moment they are doing a european food and wine tour so they change menu's - French/Italian etc.

The entree I had was simply divine, the best I've ever had.

The main again so beautiful and the dessert was a date pudding which was mouthwatering.

I want to go back, I will go back.

Highly reccommended for a romantic night out!

Eight. Two is our favourite restaurant. The food has always been superb and of a high standard. The waiting staff are fantastic, friendly and super efficient.

My new husband and I decided to have our wedding at Eight. Two as it is our favourite restaurant. Lyndsay and his staff really made our day. We have had loads of feedback from our 80 guests saying it was the best wedding they had been to or that the food was wonderful and the venue amazing. Really, I cannot say enough about the place. It should be a must for everyone who enjoys fine dining with a funky, young atmosphere.

I have recently arrived on your shores from England and have heard constantly about two places the first is the French Café and the second is Eight Point Two.
We arrived at Eight Point Two and I was immediately struck by the decor, it feels and looks like home immediately the tension of dining goes and you feel relaxed knowing a great night is on its way.
After being seated in the incredibly homey chairs we were treated to the menus, the wine I had pre-empted a bottle of rose so went for there only one immediately. With the food I liked the menu because it gave me the impression of daily changing, simple yet fully explaining every dish.
We both opted for the goats cheese starter with poached pears. Not totally original but a safe entree all the same, and to be unfair my partner was critical of this but this is because it was being compared to the French Cafe's goats cheese and beetroot tart. Which was truly the best goats cheese entree I have ever tasted and I eat it a lot! This one however was good and nothing more.
Now my main was the venison dish served with a truck load of salad leaves (a pet hate of mine) baby beetroot and greens my partner had all of the sides on the menu so cant really comment as they were fine as expected.
The only issue I had with the venison was the waiter did not ask how I liked it cooked and I think it was overcooked for venison as it was medium well.
The great thing about eight.two as previously mentioned was the relaxed atmosphere I can see the kitchen so great entertainment for me, and we could happily talk without having to be really quiet and extra polite so as not to offend the next table.
The menu, Simple flavours combined well and executed to almost perfection, The waiting staff were trained well and knowledgeable and this was all round the best evening of dining as a package as I have experienced since arriving to the big white cloud.

Eight Point Two was the venue for our "final" Christmas party.... what a night! From the minute we walked in the door Lindsay and his team made us feel at home. Nibbles and vino were served in the fabulous courtyard - and the sun shone for us. The service was faultless and the staff ensured that all 60 of us were well looked after. Once seated we were presented with a gorgeus menu and the chef and his team of masters produced dish after dish of delectible delights. Love that Chocolate dessert - sent us to heaven and back! Thanks Eight Point Two for a fabulously stylish evening from the "Reed" crowd :) You can be sure that many of us will return....

Lets face it, for such a small area, Birkenhead Point has more than it's fair share of top restaurants. With Engine Room as well as Eight Point Two Restaurant, we residents are particularly spoilt. We were here last week for a meal with the in-laws and had such a wonderful time. They are from back-water Masterton but they do appreciate good food and service nevertheless - something that Eight Point Two was offering in abundance!
