Went to dine by Peter Gordon on Mother' Day, in the hope of impressing my lady. Disappointed with our orders of the bluff oyster batter-fried and bluff oyster natural. The battered ones were over-battered. Of the 6 natural ones, two of them were less than the 30% the size of the shell. I love bluff oysters very much. It is sad to find even the ones appear more normal, there size and thickness do not seem to be anything close to the top-graded ones in New Zealand appropriate for this class of restaurant. For mains, my wife ordered a fish(hapuka) dish and I had the duck beast. Both were ordinary good but nothing outstanding. On that day, they offered us a free glass of bubbles for each too. Strangely, the lady manager kept making a lot of noises, dropping bottles inside the bar or pushing overs dining settings onto the floor. While she apologized to all the diners, it was quite disruptive. For the price we paid, the service or food is only average if not below average. Will try some other places next time. TN
Dined with my husband for our anniversary. My husband and I loves eating out so we had high expectations with this "award-winning" restaurant. The interior was quite nice, although you will have to sit so closely to the next tables which doesn't leave much space for privacy. The waitress came with a plate of butter and a plate of bread, to our disbelief, we were only offered to choose 1 piece of bread each! We were not expecting that in a fine dining restaurant. The servings where ridiculously small for the price. My husband ordered sashimi which was just plain cold king fish very thinly sliced and served. Not to appetizing at all. So plain and very simple. Altho' the mains did taste good, you end up eating the meal for just a few minutes because they were that small. It wasn't much of a 5 star/fine dining experience. The wait for the food was so long. And we basically had to eat, wait, eat, wait some more in between course. The dessert was good, but some dessert have ingredients that doesn't seem to compliment the taste. The restaurant aims on achieving combining ingredients in a meal that others wouldn't think of..but they should also make sure that each ingredient do compliment the dish.
We will not be dining here again.
Totally over-priced degustation.Terrible service - they kept interrupting our conversation, BUT worse of all was the 3 mouthfuls of very average wines ( 5 wines for an extra $85) that accompanied each course. Not to mention that I was starving afterwards! ( And I don't eat lot usually!) And the food was average and boring!I've lived in Sydney, UK and have had lots of degustations... Aria in Sydney overlooking the Opera House and Bridge is only a little more... but at least there was FOOD, SERVICE and WINE!!! ( Not that I think Aria's food is that great...)Would NEVER go there again!
We absolutely loved this restaurant. The food amazed us, it was beyond anything we could imagine, the combinations were stunning.
The service was impeccable - it was a great night out from start to finish.
I would definitely recommend this for a special night. Yes it is expensive, and the portions are not huge, so be prepared to pay, however if you are looking for exciting food combinations, perfectly cooked and presented, then go for it. I hope you will be as delighted as we were.
was disapointed, had been once before which was lovely, but this time we were told we had to be out of the restaurant two hours after we were to arrive, considering your paying so much we should be able to enjoy our meal for as long as we like. Food was average - not that happy this time and probably wont go again
Simply the best meal we have ever tasted. Every mouthful was a explosion of flavour, We highly recommend to everyone who loves food you won't be disappointed.
To be honest I was quite disappointed with our meal, the starters were almost tasteless - no jus in sight, the duck was underdone and out starter mains did not stand out at all, the best meal was my son's - hard to please a 6 year old especially when you serve up med rare beef however he scoffed it down and the taste I had of it was excellent. The saviour of the night was our amazing waitress who bent over backwards from the moment we arrived to ensure our 6 yr was attended to, she was also incredibly helpful with her suggestions for my partners birthday desert. Definitely won't be going again - sigh...
Special occasions called for a special place - I'm very pleased to say dine well and truly delivered!
My husband and I celebrated our 6th Wedding Anniversary at dine last Thursday and, although I had never been before (he had mind you), there was not one ounce of disappointment to be had. From the Duck Laksa and John Dory that I enjoyed, to the tamarillo bread and butter pud (simply divine), dine is my new favourite Auckland restaurant! Will be back...
I went here expecting great things and I was sorely disappointed. I felt that the servings were tiny and the prices outrageous. I did like the decor though, but I will be spending my hard earned money elsewhere next time I dine out!
Plush, sophisticated and sensual. You can almost taste the delicious food on offer at Dine just from walking in and admiring the beautiful setting. Dine is certainly in the top five of Auckland places to frequent. The wine list is unbelievable, the food is 'to die for' and the service is impeccable. Of course, such a treat does come with a price tag, but this is expected. If you are after a special night out, or simply just like to indulge, then check out Dine.
