I’ll be honest I don’t frequent Ponsonby/Herne Bay area that much. I think for such a well to do area the restaurants didn’t always used to match up to that standard (NB I love Vinnies though) although I do think this has drastically changed in the last three years and dinning has become what it should be in the area. I have worked in the area a few times including opening the Longroom and my unfortunate stint at the amazing Coco’s Cantina until I broke my leg and had to leave.

So I have eaten around the area quite a bit and my favourite “takeaway” is even in the area being Bird on a Wire. One place that has always been consistently good and I have decided to tell you about it today is the Café at Dida’s I had popped in a few times grab a tea and a cake but never really looked at the savoury or black board menu properly, until now that is.

I was surprised, to be frank it was a lot more extensive that I expected and not to dwell on this kind of thing but it was a lot cheaper than I thought as well. You can’t argue with monkfish wrapped in Serrano ham with pearl barley risotto for only $16.50 or a charcuterie board for $17.

The cabinet is colourful and vibrant so we decided to buy from there. They have lots of salads and cakes to choose from so we couldn’t help it. It also helps for the display that it has big pieces of meat like hams and salamis and cheeses also for sale.

I ordered a ficelle (which is like a baguette but thinner) and a small Caesar salad, my wife a small garden salad and a scone. All the food was delicious and fresh and just what I wanted and we know from what we saw this time that when we are in the area now we will definitely pop in and perhaps try the actual menu this time.

Don’t forget to pick up your Genevieve’s Parfait whilst you are in there as well. YUM!

Picking up morning tea for clients at Didas, so thought I'd best sample some of their fares!
Scrambled eggs with Toulouse sausage - heavenly breakfast to keep me going through the day - be off there again this weekend!

Popped into Dida's on Jervois Road for lunch today - as always the deli counter food was fantastic and well worth the short queue to order. Only downfall is the store side of things, as 75% of the items can be found in the 'world' section of the supermarket.

It's an understatement to call this place a 'store' - much more like a treasure trove for foodies if you ask me. Ponsonby/Herne Bay locals are definitely spoilt for choice here and I can see why Dida's is always so popular. A great deli option with the added bonus of some really good coffee - see you there!
