With stunning harbor views we were expecting service and food to match. However this was simply not the case, for our party of 6 the main courses arrived at different times and was not as ordered. Then to top it off the door staff were extremely rude. Value for money it most certainly was not and considering we spent rather a large sum we would expect the same in customer care. Improvement is certainly required here.
We go to Degree at least once week and we just love it!
The people couldn't be more friendly, the food is just lovely, always arriving in time, warm, we never had a hassle there!
I highly recommend the rancher (to share).. great way to have a nice food and a nice conversation! love the place!
What an awesome place! We went to Degree for the 1st time last Saturday for my Husbands Birthday dinner, took 4 other friends with us and we all enjoyed our time! Food was superb, customer service was top notch, and were amazed at how fast our meals were served! We left Degree that night and they couldn't stop talking about how great the food was, we have already started planning our next dinner there! Thank you so much, you have a wonderful team of staff!
I often visit Degree during the week for lunch or on a Friday evening after work, very central location so it's perfect for meeting friends who also work in the city.
For such a busy place its very refreshing to see that their focus is still very firmly on customer service. I always leave Degree having had a totally unique experience, feeling like Ive been spoiled! The service really makes degree for me, friendly, unpretentious and genuine.
The food does not let it down either, the menu is so varied and constantly updated so it never gets predictable, the stonegrills are to die for and I must admit I am often particularly drawn to the seafood platter!
Great deals every day means you'll always get a good bargain and if you haven't tried the mussels deal on a Monday yet then you're missing out.
My only criticism is that the place is looking a little tired of late but I believe that refurbishment is on the horizon. I very much look forward to seeing the new and improved degree, I just hope the fundamental characteristics of the place don't change!
I love this place. I never leave disappointed. After a long day at work all I need is a little TLC and I get it from Degree. Great food, top notch service.
Just had our Christmas work party at Degree and had a great night-the place was buzzing, and the food amazing!! Never had a stonegrill before but will definately be going back!
What can I say...Great food and great service!!! I cant wait to go back to Degree Gastrobar again!!!
Awesome place, awesome stone grill meals unfortunately i pent twice as much on refreshments than i did on the meal
a great place for lunch, we go here often and enjoy it every time, food is always good and service is wonderful, great setting to
Nice and relaxed atmosphere
dined here many times, food is great and it turns into an excellent dance bar as well
Took a girlfriend for her birthday and had the worst dining experience ever. Sat down to a sticky table of beer; asked for recommendation on wine and they didn't know; ordered a seafood platter, it was over-laden with mussels with no tuna on the plate, only to be told that they ran out of tuna after putting the plate down on the table; and whilst paying the bill had the waitress having a little conversation of her own with little regards for customer service. Too many untrained students working the place. Would not recommend this place. Full stop.
Went there on a Thursday night for a friend's farewell party for drinks and some food. The dishes had a good sized portion for its price, especially the dessert (tried the brownie which was quite good) and the drinks they had were also pretty good. Atmosphere was nice and easy going but not great to sit outside during winter as heaters didn't give an even heat distribution. Overall, will still go back to try out other meals.
We had our work xmas party here last year! Great night and being on the waterfront is always good, heaps of room and we had our own special area away from other patrons!
In our hey day/early on in our heading to town campaign, degree was an absolute go-to for myself and the boys. We would get on the lash at home and head to town for a good night. Occasionally we would start somewhere else and head to degree, or we would just spend the night there, either way there was only one option on the cards and it was degree. The demographics suited us down to the ground and many antics had us in tears during the recap sessions on sunday mornings. It certainly catered for all our needs- dancefloor, two bars and plenty of ladies.Dont really go anymore to be honest- the famous 'demographics' have changed and a couple of debates we partook in with the bouncers ended with an unexpected rebuttal. It was fun while it lasted though!!!
Having been a regular diner at Degree I have to say what a great experience it is-fantastic location, friendly staff and the food, especially the stonegrills are amazing-I was put off to start with cooking my own steak on the hot rock, but seriously was so much fun, tastes great and it's definately a talking point...would recommend to all! even better was that after dinner at the weekend they turn into a nightclub-no need to trek round!!
I went to Degree on Sunday and I had a very pleasant experience. My partner and I shared a jug of Monteiths Radler (very tasty) and listened to the live band - Chet and Mel I think? They were great and it was the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon, while over looking the boats moored in the harbour. I recommend!
I went to Degree on Saturday night and had a great night! The ambience was electrifying, as the All Blacks were playing!! As soon as the All Blacks finished a dj started and the place changed into a night club. Throughout the night 4 big name dj's played and the place was jumping!! The staff were all very proffessional and friendly and I had one of the best nights I have had in town in a while. Good on you Degree! Look foward to another night out with you!
Went to Degree for the first time last Sunday night. Was meant to be going to the Irish Pub next door but somehow went to the wrong place. Really impressed. When we got there a live band was just finishing off and the bar area was pretty busy. Still got good bar service and staff were friendly. Ordered food and that came promptly and with a smile. Enjoyed it so much I am thinking of hiring the upstairs area for my upcoming 40th!!!!!!
Wasn't impressed at all by Degree the last few times I have been. Food is late and parts of orders are missed and the staff are SO grumpy! Ordered a round of drinks on Saturday and the bar tender looked annoyed! Then carried on her own conversation as I was paying. Considering giving up my regular patronage because I'm sick of it.
Went in for the first time last night & had a blast!! Would've gone in again after checking out the Waterfront but I got bounced at the door. The bouncer was upset that I didn't
"ask him" if I needed I.D. and he thought I was intoxicated because I was all red from dancing as I don't drink. I am way over age and consider it to be a great place. I just think the bouncers should have better customer service!
I'm amazed by the number of reviewers who under the guise of anonymity write negative reviews. That aside....Degree is lovely, lovely, lovely. Saturdays are my nights there $5 bubbly, good staff, good fun! The dance floor is always full of people having a good time with a few shinangins thrown into the mix. Goodtimes you say...? Dam straight
Degree has been my regular for over 5 months now. After trying many of the Restaurants and bars on the Viaduct (my place of work) Degree has proved to be the most consistant and pleasurable place to go on all counts. Their service is friendly and unpretentious, their menu extensive yet reasonably priced and their waterfront location is perfect for those long chatty lunch's I so enjoy!
Degree Gastrobar has a nice set up, great food - but one thing they can improve on is their service. Staff look so miserable.
Meeting a group of girlfriends for dinner on a Friday night at Degree Gastrobar was a great idea. The stonegrill was lovely, service was pretty good considering the waitress was run off her feet. However, staying on for a drink and dance after we had eaten turned out to be a bit disappointing due to the very very old school music that was played by the DJ.
Prior to a Friday night of drinking, we ventured into Degree Gastrobar. It is quite weird eating in the front window and even stranger having dinner while every one else is just getting plastered. I always have a stonegrill when I go to Degree and it was as good as I remember the last one being.
The waitress was run off her feet, so the service was a bit slow at times, but it was still a good meal. The only thing I would suggest is to get a new DJ: the after-dinner music was stuff we listened to when we were tweens!!
We dropped into Degree on the Labour holiday weekend - perfect place to watch the world go by and enjoy a few beers in the sunshine.
What's with the ice bar bit - froze my shirt to the bar surface!
Sat here all day during the final Lions test and haven't had a better day drinking in Auckland. Probably not the most indicative ambience for the bar day-to-day but i'll certainly be back there again soon.
Degree, down on the Viaduct Harbour, pretty much does what it needs to do – but not much more. The bar service is fairly swift, the food menu is slightly above your average pub food (e.g. all-day breakfasts, chicken burrito etc), done to a decent standard but overall nothing to write home about.
The location is pretty awesome and a great spot to engage in ‘people watching’ but only if you want to settle for ‘third’ best (after Soul and the Loaded Hog).
