De Fontein Belgian Beer Cafe

Very delish home style food, ohh and there muscle's, De Fontein is our local and we head there quite alot!

De Fontein's quality of food is still better than some of its sister restaurants. It's not the best but I do like their metre-long sausage.

I'd go for the atmosphere and the beers.

Service - friendly and generally efficient.

A bit pricey, but food is excellent!
You want to go there when you have time, sit on the balcony and have a beer while waiting for your meal. Really nice place;

My Brother celebrated his 40th birthday here recently, Staff were very accomodating making his night a fantastic one! All that came enjoyed themselves and the boys seemed to indulge in their great selection of beers! A+++ for making our night a great one!

This is a great restaurant, my favourite is the Lamb salad, also the live band 'The Munro Brothers' give the place a really cool atmosphere. Nice setting, nice balcony for summer dining - De Fontein is well worth a look

A group of 5 of us went to De Fontein on a Saturday for lunch last week. We have been before for mussels and beer and been impressed with what we ordered. The service has always been well below par and was even worse today.
We were seated promptly in a nice position on the balcony. Our drinks orders were taken and arrived about ten minutes later. That was as good as it got on this day. My partner and I ordered the soup of the day which arrived after 30mins cold, and we asked them to heat it up. The others ordered mussels and the mushrooms. On this occasion the thai mussels were well over seasoned and not fresh, the mushrooms arrived cold and were very boring. After everyone else had finished their meals our soup had still not arrived back. (25mins to reheat soup is ridiculous!)

We cancelled our meals as everyone else had already finished their below average meals, and left feeling hungry, annoyed and hugely dissapointed! There was no apology or attempt to reconcile the situation and the service was far worse than what I would maybe expect in a fast food restaraunt.

Would not reccomend for anything else apart from expensive beer and mussels (on a good day)

Four of us went to this bar on Saturday night. It started well. We were seated straight away and we placed a drinks order. That's as good as it got!


The waitress constantly got the drinks orders wrong and didn't know what the bar stocked, nor did she know what the vegetables were or the sauces for the steaks.


The meals took about an hour to arrive and were not worth the hefty prices. The medium steaks were bleeding and very tough. The plates were piled high with fries and that's about all we could eat! We got another waiter who was no better than the first. Would not go back there to eat again!!

Having made many enjoyable beer-only stops at De Fontein Belgian Beer Cafe, my partner and I decided to visit recently for a full meal.


It was a typically bustling mid-week evening, and although the crowd were indoors due to the nasty Auckland weather, the atmosphere was just right. We were seated promptly and started to enjoy our first drinks. Unfortunately that was where our night peaked.


Table service was slow, and so we ordered starters and mains together to hasten the whole process. A shared pot of mussels was thoroughly tasty, but took nearly 45 minutes to arrive.


Ordered drinks were also lost somewhere, and an hour and a half after the initial order, our mains were nowhere to be seen. We were tempted to just cancel then and there as it was getting so late, but with a bit of management intervention our meals suddenly arrived.


Mine, a medium-rare sirloin, was tough and cool. The side of vegetables looked and tasted as though straight out of the microwave. My partners lamb shank was also tough and dry.


The beer is nice, if a little expensive, but I certainly won't rush back for the food.
