Thought id call into the newly rennovated corner bar, bartenders informed me that it was under new ownership, and that the owners of hotel de brett actually owned and ran it now instead of just leasing it out, the inside looks fantastic, bigger than before, and the warm colours really make you feel comfortable, especially on the rainy thursday i called in. It was good to see some really good nz beers on the list and none of the generic crap you see now a days. the bartender was very knowledgeable and friendly chatting away to me, and keeping me company over my quiet drink. didnt try the food but when looking at the menu was enticed to try it one day. overall the new corner bar is a breath of fresh air in the stagnating auckland scene, it breathes vibrancy and class into an industry which has been doing the same old thing over and over again. i recommend to anybody that they visit the new corner bar as it has a personality that is hard to find now a days.
Went on Friday around 8pm, have waited for 10minutes trying to make an eye contact with one of 3 bartenders so that I can order my long needed beer. No one, out of three bartenders, would even look at me, instead they were joking around chatting away, obviously not doing their job (N.B. it was not that busy).
Ordered Moa pale ale - one of two tap beers that they offer - tasted so awful that I could not even finish half.
Left, and will never come back.
I love this wee bar! In a city chock full of 'trendy' new places it's really great to find a welcoming establishment that's not afraid to make the most of its heritage. Plus the staff were really nice and the drinks were good too!
