Cereal Killa, Auckland - Cafe Review
Vibe
A welcome addition to the emergence of the Dominion Rd café scene with a warm and colourful ambience combining retro touches with a pop culture spin.
Service
After two visits to Cereal Killa, we’ve seen no let up in the extremely personable and keen service delivered by all the staff. Driving it all with loads of energy is Sam the owner. His resume includes stints at The French Café and Amisfield Bistro near Queenstown, and it really shows.
Drinks
Excellent organic and fair-trade coffee from eighthirty up on K’Rd, and refreshing juices and smoothies. The breakfast smoothie ($7)- with added oats – is a mini-meal in itself.
Highlights
Look forward to interesting and innovative spins on traditional café fare. In the case of Cereal Killa, that means coconut porridge with pear, ginger and berries ($13), or the Half English ($17), with crushed potato, sausage, spinach, tomato and a poached egg. The Hungarian-style sausage is a real winter warmer treat.
Most Surprising Dish
The avocado eggs benedict with spinach, tomato, and delicate snow pea tendrils ($16.50).
The Bottom Line
Welcome to one of Auckland’s best new cafes, blending brilliant service, a hip and laidback ambience, and a serious approach to really good food.
A Reason To Return
For one of Cereal Killa’s sandwiches ($8.50)– try the chorizo, feta and pinenuts variation – or for a comfort food lunch. We’ve heard great things about the chicken schnitzel with creamy potato mash, rocket and slow-roasted tomato ($17).
