Cazador Restaurant Information
There isn't a more apt name for this Mt Eden, Auckland restaurant than Cazador - the Spanish word for hunter. Cazador Restaurant doesn't just expertly dish out some of the best game dishes such as venison, pheasant, duck and wild pork that are imbued with Mediterranean and Middle Eastern flavours; it's head chef, Tony Lolaiy even goes out on hunting trips for his own catch. Tony's such a lover of game hunting that he'd even embrace cooking the game meat that patrons bring into the restaurant!
For those meat lovers who have vegetarian or vegan eating companions, worry not; Cazador also serve classics and vegetarian options. With Cazador Restaurant’s warm and ambient settings, inclusive of live classical guitar music every Friday and Saturday night, it's difficult not to enjoy a night out at this unique Auckland restaurant.

Cazador, just wow! Cazador is a bistro-style restaurant that specialises in game food and I can honestly say that this is my absolute favourite restaurant in Auckland to date. The service was warm and friendly, the atmosphere quaint and charming, and the food was delicious and unforgettable. I can’t wait to go back and I can’t recommend this restaurant enough to other.
A friend and I visited Cazador for drinks and nibbles last week. What a cool place! Fantastic front of house and excellent wine and food. The décor at Cazador is very cool too. We shared a mixed platter which included pate, shredded duck, crumbed tongue chips, dips, salamis and breads. A few things I wouldn't normally try but all very delicious. The wine recommended was a lovely spanish white which was rich and buttery and really hit the spot. Cazador is a real little gem and we will be back.
Slightly ashamed to admit that I had no idea that Cazador existed since a few days ago, when I was invited to a birthday dinner during the weekend. Located on a quiet section of Dominion Road, there isn’t many other restaurants nearby, which could explain why I never noticed Cazador existed in the first place. With an emphasis on game meat, Cazador has been part of Auckland’s dining scene for over 25 years and is currently on Metro’s Top 50 Restaurants in Auckland.Being the only specialised game restaurant in Auckland, be expected to see meat like guinea fowl, rabbit and pheasant on the menu, most of them hunted and prepared by the staff who run Cazador. They do have a fish special, but it’s not an ideal place to bring a dining companion who doesn’t eat meat. You will see things on the menu that you have never seen before and can be quite a surprise for the faint hearted. Poussin hearts, calf tongue and rabbit lungs, this is the perfect place for one to open their culinary mind. For more details on the food, please check out my post here
Went recently on my birthday...Hearty, wholesome and delicious with friendly and personable service...strongly recommended and they have much wider variety than game...although they do game really well and dishes like duck... Sure the trophy animal heads may be off putting for some but hey the food is great and fairly priced
I love Cazador, my family has gone there for years, and now I take my boyfriend along too. If you go, go for the game, its what this place does best. The food is fantastic, the service is exceptional and unpretentious and prices very reasonable. Cazador is a real Auckland icon. Highly recommended.
A generally enjoyable experience. Lovely meals had by all. However, disagree with the hostesses insistance that we split the bill evenly between our party as some of us didnt order an entree or dessert. We have never had any problems paying for what we ordered at any other restaurant. The service was very good up until that point which tarnished our overall experience.
