Went to Catalina before heading to the great Farmers Market on Sunday. The menu is very short but this is because it is backed up by a great cabinet. Also as well the lunch and breakfast menu are combined so this results in a few different things available for breakfast.
We went a little simple though, 2 of the group had eggs on toast, the scrambled eggs were excellent and creamy, I also like cafes that make there own tomato "ketchup" or chutney which Catalina do.
I had something a little different which was basically a sausage sandwich but the sausages were excellent and the sandwich with the roasted red capsicums and beetroot chutney was a treat to eat.

Look forward to coming back again.

I "accidentally" stumbled on Catalina cafe this morning when I saw the sign just as I was about to get on the new motorway. Maybe they should have a few more signs as I was starting to wonder where it was as I drove down the long road and you couldn't see it. But finally worth the journey, nice old building, great outdoor area, nice coffee and nice staff. Will be back to Catalina to try brunch soon.

I live around the corner from Catalina Cafe in Hobsonville and have been here a few times now since it opened - every time it has been terrible. They've hardly changed their menu since they opened, the coffee is very average and it is really, really overpriced for what it is - the big breakfast is definitely not worth $24. I've had the brioche french toast a couple of times now, both times served with freezing cold (and I'm assuming canned) fruit on top which cooled the toast, not nice and wam and "poached" like on the menu. A tiny, tiny Belgian biscuit costs $3 something, another total rip off.

Catalina could get away with their extremely high prices if they had good food and coffee, but they're below average in both. I'm assuming the only reason people go there is because it's the only cafe in our area. If you go on a Sunday, just go into the Hobsonville Farmers Market instead - much better food and coffee there.

I don't work for Catalina or anything but just I would point out the coffee in the market you like is made by Catalina Cafe. The place that sells the coffee also does food which again is by Catalina. - Report

The coffee at the farmers market is hot, the coffee at Catalina is lukewarm (at best). Both are not great, but given the lack of options in Hobsonville, the farmers market is the best bet because at least it is hot there. As for the food - local bakers sell their pastries and breads at the farmer's market. - Report

Had brunch today at Catalina cafe in Hobsonville after a quick buy up at the farmers market. Great coffee and good counterfood options. Service at Catalina cafe was a bit slack but they were fairly busy.
Kid friendly and if they get too annoying, take them to the nearby park - fantastic.
