Looks like it's unanimous - Cassia can do little wrong it seems if these reviews are anything to go by. Cassia has been on my 'must-visit' list for quite some time but only had the opportunity to try it last night with a group of friends. Firstly - fantastic setting, dimly lit, low ceilings, jovial atmosphere and well-informed staff...off to a good start so far. Then there was the food - we shared three entrees (a superb eggplant dish, soft shell crab and venison) and a few mains (duck and market fish) and it was so hard to single out a single dash as all were absolutely divine. Add in Man o War Chardonnay and there's not a lot that could go wrong! Cassia was so worth the wait- a return visit is on the cards very soon...

Sid Sahrawat of the justly celebrated Sidart is behind a new venture in the former Mandarin Dumpling premises in Fort Lane. The dishes are using traditional Indian flavours and spices but given a modern twist.

We started with shared Onion Kulcha with a very kicky relish. The soft shell crab I was hankering for and it was so very good. And a generous starter size.

The lamb I chose for my main and swapped with a friend for half of his veal and both were very very good. The basmati rice with a hint of cardamom showed a nicer way of offering something as simple as rice.

My highlight of the night was the burst of flavour in your mouth when you gobbled a whole Pani Puri. The Tamarind liquid was poured in front of you into the little edible vessels which I thought was a nice touch.

The food is visually appealing, the service was almost flawless – great for a restaurants first month - and the wine list is well designed to match the food.

The Matre-D Matt whom I have followed from French Café to Masu to Cassia didn’t bat an eyelid over our complicated splitting of the bill for our group of 6 due to shared wine.

Final verdict - A great place I recommend and will be back to and a far cry from the restaurant that was previously in here.

I agree with the previous reviewer - Cassia is most definately a find well worth seeking out. The small dish menu is fantastic and makes Cassia perfect for small groups. From a recent visit earlier this week, I particularly enjoyed the short rib and the onion kulcha - fantastic. If you're after a bit of an adventure when it comes to India dining, I can definately recommend Cassia highly and will be back for more of the same.

OMG Sid!!! you are such a star!! Wednesday night and thought would try something new . unfortunately they don't take reservations unless you have a party of 8 or more. We got there at 7.15p.m. and were told there would be a 30 to 40 min wait by a less than welcoming Maître de. I queried as to why you couldn't make reservations and was met with silence. At this point I wouldn't have bothered but one of the diners leaving said it was worth the wait. So I gave "Mr unfriendly" my name and mobile and he said he would call.Had a drink at Orleans with great music and atmosphere. 8.00 p.m and no call so we wandered back to Cassia. A nice lady this time who said she would put us at the bar and set up a table. This is when the night turned magical!! we met Barney the Barman....he was so friendly and knew his wines and cocktails back to front. PLUS he also knew the menu backwards and suggested we enjoy a couple of starters whilst at the bar. They were out of the Brioche (thanks to that wonderful reviewer Peter Calder who recommended it). we started with onion Kulcher &Coriander Relish. Followed by little puffs of crisp delight into which was poured a gorgeous sauce and then you had to eat them in one bite. By this time we had decided to stay at the bar and watch the kitchen work and enjoy our dinner. (wouldn't work for 4 but for 2 its perfect) We had checked the menu and you shouldn't be here if you want a Rogan josh or Butter chicken....this is Indian fusion and its fantastic. We didn't refer to the menu again as the staff gave us their recommendations. We had Lamb chops with onion rings, pickled onions &coconut chutney fabulous!! Roasted Potato and Cauliflower Burata with cauliflower cream, spinach and cashew!! ENOUGH SAID!!! yum!! and Delhi Duck which was the most tender and flavoursome duck I have ever tasted. My husband also had scallops which were amazing. And I havnt mention the MUST HAVE Mango Gin Fizz. At $140 for two great value. IT IS WORTH THE WAIT!
