Mixed bag – Had good and bad food at the Cardrona Speights Ale House
Pluses:– Friendly bar staff– Coal Creek Ribs were tasty
Minuses:– Shearers Shanks were the toughest we have ever had!– Broken tables with nails protruding– Maintenance is needed
Interesting:– Beer tasting tray is a good way to try a range of beers– Coal Creek Ribs were not on their menu last visit!– How can a manager allow damaged furniture for people to use/see. It looks terrible!
Verdict: – We will try again in 6-12 months

Average pub food - my salad was VERY average. Nice service except we were there on pub quiz night (Tues) so took away from the ambience. Normal prices. Would be great for a drink on a summers day or after work drinks.

Going to a pub one does not expect haute cuisine. One does expect the food to be of a reasonable standard, however. Galbraiths, just around the corner, is a prime example of great pub food at reasonable prices

Not so at Speights Cardrona. The fish special last weekend was inedible. Two large pieces of something unidentifiable obviously just out of the freezer on top of some bok choy

To charge close to $30 each was a monstrous rip-off

Of course being Speights the emphasis is on beer not wine but the wine list was dull and dominated by Australian wines

No way will we ever return here and I would advise anyone wanting pub food in this part of town to go to Galbraiths or the Horse and Trap

I must disagree with you ray, respectfully of course. Some friends and I enjoyed a steak and a few beers not long ago and were very satisfied. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Admittedly the price tags were slightly higher than the traditional pub/pub feed like you would enjoy at say, the Huapai tavern, but given the comparitive proximity to town that price is to be expected. I wouldnt need too much convincing to head back there again. - Report
