After reading reviews on this site I was excited to finally make a visit to Calliope Road Cafe. Sadly our meals were lukewarm and flavourless - I've never had to put salt on everything but it was a desperate situation and I was starving. Considering I had the Colcannon which is poached eggs and salmon on a leek and onion mash, I was really surprised at how bland it was. My partner had their equivalent of a big breakfast but it was similarly tasteless. Such a shame because the coffee really was fantastic!

Went to Calliope Road Cafe for breakfast today on impulse. We are real foodies and like to go out to breakfast often, sometimes twice a week. This place struck me as so special I had to tell others about it. Within a couple of minutes of being there we both had a real feel-good feeling which lingered for the duration of our visit and well beyond. The atmosphere at Calliope Road Cafe was very relaxing, business was steady but not too full-on, cabinets had delicious very unique and creative food for sale (so enticing we had to buy a few things for later on). As a vegetarian, I was totally excited to see so many options available to me. We ordered breakfast and drinks - all good quality. I ordered the Colcannon with mushrooms - a leek and onion potato mash with poached eggs and hollandaise. Very delicious, VERY filling. My partner had a French Brioche oozing chocolate. The staff were very welcoming and friendly in a genuine way. The cafe was spacious and we nabbed some really comfortable soft padded chairs. My partner had a peep of the sea, and I delighted in having the street view where I was entertained by the gorgeous canine visitors to the cafe. What a fantastic kick-start to a Sunday!

What a difference six months makes. I visited Calliope Road Cafe twice within the first few weeks of it opening last year as I was really keen to experience something other than the Stone Oven or Manuka for that matter.
With high expectations of this Stanley Point cafe, I must admit to being fairly disappointed with the off-hand service I received.
I happened to be driving past today and it seemed really popular so thought I'd give it another go. What a change - I was actively welcomed by two friendly staff members ( a young guy and a Japanese(?) girl who were very friendly.
The Chiasso coffee was great and the zucchini and cheese scone was delicious - I'm glad I gave this cafe a (third) chance - and these days would highly recommend Calliope Road Cafe.

Sorry guys, I know it's early days but your game needs to be improved. Thought Id give Calliope Road Cafe a go yesterday instead of the usual Devonport offerings (Stone Oven, Five Loaves) - brand new potential client but based on the non-plussed welcome/service I received I wont be racing back. Shame, as it was a golden opportunity considering I probably spend $40 per week locally. Good chiasso coffee mind - I'll give calliope road another go but just annoying as i genuinely wanted it to be my local!

We were the Calliope Road Cafe's very first customers. In fact we were standing knocking at the door when it opened its doors this morning. We've been watching the renovations that transformed Calliope Road Cafe from old dairy to new cafe.
It's nice to have a neighbourhood local.
Our first experience was just coffee and kids' meals. (Mums were going for a run straight afterwards). It was a really nice experience - although the staff members were a bit flustered. I'm sure that will pass.
I would give the coffee a 7/10, which is better than most in Devonport. The kids meals were nice, and also reasonably priced, which will have a big impact on my business. Had they been more expensive, I would have thought twice about going back too often.
I'm looking forward to trying the adult food.
People started to trickle in as soon as the cafe opened its doors. The locals were keen to try it out.
