I attended a staff Christmas party here for about 40 people. It was on a Saturday at lunch time, and since there were only a couple of other tables booked, we almost had the place to ourselves. We started with a drink on the terrace outside which was nice, despite it being a windy day. Once we were seated our orders were taken from the set menu, and the staff were very friendly and patient with the big group. I was very happy with the food - my entrée of calamari was really well cooked, and my steak done just right with great fries on the side. We had chocolate brownie for dessert. It was a huge serving and came just warm on the plate - yum! It would be a bit out of my way to go up to Caffe e Cucina for a meal, but I think the locals are lucky to have such a great place in their neighbourhood.
Like most italian restaurants you can expect a great bustling atmosphere inside. Parking was easy and since we went for an early family dinner, everything was served quickly. The pizza here is a must-try (esp the shrimp and pork belly one) and definitely the highlight of our meals. You can probably pass on the lasagne as it was nothing special. We finished with tiramisu which was perfect and left us wanting more :) Great friendly and professional service!
I have dined at Caffe E Cucina 8x or so. Each time have a fabulous overall experience - with outstandingly friendly & professional service & excellent food. Top that off with a great interior - Caffe e Cucina is a winner. Highly recommend for consistency, service & quality food.
Albany is not somewhere that we would normally travel for dinner (living in Waitakere), but had a couple of hours to fill in on Wednesday night there, so booked into Caffe e Cucina and very glad we did - how lucky Albany dwellers are to have such a great restaurant on their doorstep. Couldn't fault the service or the food and want to make particular mention of the Duck & Mushroom Ragu Pappadelle - absolutely superb! Look forward to the next time we have an excuse to spend time in Albany.
Didn't get to try the food here, but from the other reviews of Caffe e Cucina we thought we would try the place last Saturday night, we arrived at around 7pm and were immediately seated...and that was that...in the 20 minutes we were there not one waiter came over to our table, while we waited to be served the table next to ours had people obviously waiting for their left over pizza to be taken away, in the end they wrapped it up in tissues, and the icing on the cake was while we waited to be served a women and her children were seated at a table next to ours, they were immediately given glasses of water and a waiter returned to their table to take drinks orders, needless to say we got up and walked out!
Second visit to Caffe e Cucina and cannot fault it.
Service is outstanding. food awesome. So great to have this quality at our back door
We must have gone on an off day - the food was lukewarm, dried up and not very good at all. The kids fries tasted like old cooking oil and the lamb shank was dry and cold on top but burning hot underneath - maybe microwaved?
Desert did redeem itself though - the chocolate brownie was very good but sadly we probably won't go back to Caffe e Cucina!
honestly really surprised by caffe e cucina. Really obscure setting in Albany but I was genuinely impressed by all facets of the dining experience. Took my partner to caffe e cucina for lunch - I had the lamb shanks and she had the salmon gnocchi. Ample portions and both very tasty. The service at Caffe e Cucina could also not be faulted...a restaurant well worth seeking out.
Despite being in the area for years, never really heard a word about caffe e cucina at all until my boss discovered a few weeks back.
Rather than take his word on it, thought I'd give caffe e cucina a try on my own terms. It's really quite hard to find but well worth seeking out. Caffe e Cucina is certainly one of the better restaurants around in this part of Albany.
What a surprise and what a find - in Albany of all places! For the many times I have driven past this rather bland looking exterior, I assumed Caffe e Cusina was just an every-day cafe. Not so. Not so at all!
Drop in and you will find a spacious and modern restaurant serving Italian cuisine from breakfast through to dinner. We were sat outside under the louvres on the leather banquette seating, which was comfy and certainly not cramped.
The service was a little slow but they were fairly busy with local business folks having power lunches!
The food was pretty good - the only thing letting them down was the chicken in my caesar salad was cold and cut a little on the chunky side. But overall it tasted great.
Went last night to Caffe e Cucina and had a damn good night. The service was extremely friendly and attentive. We had a bottle of wine which was fairly decent and was only $37 not to mention it was from Venice which gave that extra nice touch on the Italian experience. My meatballs where better than 'just good', others at the table had Risotto balls which where "delicious' My wife had courgette wrapped in ricotta which where gone by the time i took at second look at her plate. We moved on to mains, I had fish soup (name doesn't justify it) there was an Italian name which I cant remember and would rather not say than get it wrong. The soup was PACKED with mussels, prawns, scampi, scallops, squid and what I believe is kingfish. It was excellent with a good kick of pepper the only one down point where by the time it was served and eaten the scallops where well overcooked. Going round the table....friend 1 Pork belly on recommendation from the waitress was "excellent", Friend 2 calzone, "tasty. Wife, "best bruschetta I've had for a while."Then the hard part, we're stuffed but the dessert menu is packed with a lot of excellent choices and i personally never usually go for dessert but my wife coaxed me into the dessert platter. The platter was pretty good with the highlight being the hot chocolate brownie, probably one of the best i have had.Anyway definitely worth visiting this place. We had vouchers from a day sale website but will definitely be coming again.
Just passing through Albany and thought we would stop in for a coffee, was pleasantly surprised to find a large comfortable restaurant with an amazing outdoor area. The coffees were lovely and was even tempted to have some breakfast which I found to be a nice change from the norm. The waffles were a nice blend of soft and crispy and the scrambled eggs with chorizo sausage on toast were done to perfection. Friendly staff and nice chilled atmosphere, perfect for a Sunday morning. Will definitely be returning!!
This was a real find in Albany as visiting Caffe e Cucina. Good food, great wine and excellent service. Restored my severely damaged faith in Auckland caffe culture after some bad experiences. Thoroughly recommended.
Sad to say that our first dining experience at Caffe e Cucina was not a positive one. Unless you are interested in an extremely light evening meal stay away from the fish dishes. Fish of the day and the fish parcel were both disappointing, closer to a vegetarian dish of salad with a small potion of fish on the side. Friday night you lose the option of the fries with the dish so your opportunity to feel that you have had a meal is lowered further, the staff however did state fries came with the fish so you can force this out of them eventually. The setting was great and we enjoyed our wine but at over $30 per dish we were less than impressed at the meals, unlikely we will return or recommend to others.
