Its all TRUE about Te Akau. Disappointed today (Mothers Day 2008): They're fully booked with no view of anyone leaving anytime soon. The women in-charge of the restaurant is Classy; Homely; Articulate; Knowledgeable on the food, service, industry, area, excudes what I think is Maori; Head Chef and Aunty behind the wall - hardly seen but Hill-Top reigning. Truly one of our City's BEST, if not the BEST... Truly

Cafe Te Akau is tucked away in a suburban area but the views from the balcony overlooking the Weymouth seaside is beautiful. The meals are delicious and the cost is really excellent. I went their with only $25 in my wallet and still came home with change and a full belly. I had a Steak meal with salad, potato wedges and homemade aioli sauce and a slice of homebaked lemon meringue pie with a dollop of cream on the side and it was awesome and a silky creamy hot flat white coffee to accompany it. I recommend this place if you want to get away from it all and just enjoy a meal where the surroundings are peaceful and quiet. The hostess was very friendly and her service was impeccable and she did all of this with a smile that was genuine and not fake. My friends and I were very impressed and we will be definately going back there again.

This cafe is off the hook! It is Maori owned and the artwork is great. Although the premises are on the small side and the toilet is outside and not in the cafe itself, I think the food over rules anything else. Their menu is hot with a range of different foods for everyone's tastebuds: from a nice cut of steak to a homemade lamb burger or Thai green curry or even steamed mussels!

Also you can even choose to have these from the $12 menu or the main menu. The garlic bread is fabulous and are served in kete baskets. They also have a range of weekend breakfasts to choose from and you even have desserts to choose from.

This cafe rocks and it is the only restaurant/cafe that I have been to that will always cook your steak to perfection and you never have to send it back and it comes with a very affordable price!
