Cafe People, Ponsonby - Cafe Review
Cafe People sits near the K Rd end of Ponsonby Road, an area of the famous strip that is devoid of much cafe action.
Food
All your standards such as French toast, scrambled eggs and muesli. Completely against type, I went for the breakfast salad which included bacon, poached egg, tomato, avocado, parmesan and mesculin. This was great, especially with the squeeze of lemon juice over the top. The eggs were good if nothing more than the usual but a glance at the lunch menu suggests that a return trip for zucchini, haloumi & sweet corn fritters wouldn't be a bad thing.
Drinks
Fantastic Velvet coffee with our flat whites all perfectly hot and smooth
Vibe
The location's not much to look at from the outside - all concrete and glass and tucked away so you can barely see it. Inside it's much better. We like the breakfast bar when you first enter, great for solo visits with only the Herald for company. Somewhat annoyingly, the black tables are just a little bit too small to comfortably get more than 2 people around them.
Service
I can't remember the service which for me generally means that it must have been unintrusive and efficient.
Highlights
Salad for breakfast - who'd have thought?
The Bottom Line
It may look quite stark from the outside, but Cafe People is a great little spot at the end of Ponsonby Road that really does need a good cafe.
