although probably not the best vietnamese eatery in town if you are just looking at taste alone (my pick would be Try It Out), but with the atmosphere, vibe and location, Cafe Hanoi stands above the rest.
Definately Britomart price levels, one real standout dish for me was the hotpot of pork belly - delicious!
great food
great service
good prices
cafe hanoi is very noisy though!
The flavours and inspiring dishes on the menu are fantastic, Great atmosphere and a very popular little spot. Cafe Hanoi is well worth popping your head in and grabbing a table if there is one. Great service which is always a treat.
Went to Cafe Hanoi for dinner on a Sunday, got there relatively early, but glad we did as it did get busy.
This place is an absolute must for any Aucklander. The food was amazing and the service was impeccable.
There were 4 of us and ordered about 5 plates, as the food is meant for sharing. The highlight of the meal were the prawns they were beautifully made in an almost tempura like batter. Dessert was only good I recommend the lemon curd, that was the winner.
All in all Cafe Hanoi is doing Asian cuisine right, I look forward to returning back there soon!
Took a client to Cafe Hanoi today for lunch. Fairly busy so service was quite rushed and not overly friendly.
Food was good however - the two of us shared the shaking beef and crystal bay prawns with both having some fantastic flavours coming through.
Will definately give Cafe Hanoi another go but may pick a time less busy.
Lovely fresh food and a cool atmosphere/staff - little wonder why Cafe Hanoi is so popular. Went here during the week (for lunch) and like a few other reviewers, I went for the papaya salad which was perfect. Well done Cafe Hanoi - a great Vietnamese experience!
After reading heaps of user reviews (the most very positive) we were pretty excited about the prospect of our first trip to Cafe Hanoi in Britomart. Very busy on this visit (Thursday night) but thankfully we'd already made a prior reservation.
Setting is pretty cool and the staff are certainly very knowledgeable if a little over confident.
The food on the other hand could not be faulted - the chicken and papaya salad was deliciously fresh and brought back all sorts of memories from holidays in that part of the world, but the pork belly was the real deal! Cafe Hanoi is expensive considering portion sizes, but well worth the visit to Britomart all the same.
Had a business catch up at Cafe Hanoi yesterday and unfortunately by the look of all these positive reviews, must have caught Cafe Hanoi on a bad day.
Service was good (especially fitting us in at the last moment given the time of the year) and there's a buzzy atmosphere going on but the food didn't quite reach the levels I was expecting.
We shared some starters of minced shrimp on wonto-ey things and summer rolls, and then shared the mains of squid, beef and a papaya salad.
The beef was beautiful, but the papaya salad was very bland.
Nevertheless - with a few drinks under our belts and with change from $150, thought it was fairly well priced.
I'll give Cafe Hanoi another shot in the New Year when things aren't as manic.
