Food inspired by Vietnamese street stalls is what you will find at Café Hanoi. You can’t book but turn up early for a drink and you are sure to get a table. This place is certainly one of the most trendy places to go if you’re a person in the know. It hasn’t ceased to be busy for the months it has been around and I hazard a guess that it will be around for long to come. The style is the sharing approach which I swear has you ordering more than you need as you never know when to stop ordering another dish.

Of course we started with the obligatory Summer rolls which were fresh and tasty. Tofu and squid were some of the other dishes, both cooked perfectly. The chicken noodle salad is always a great side. My fav was the pork in pancakes and grilled pork with herbs.

For dessert the lemon curd with meringue was nice be it very sweet, but would have been better with some crunch to give it texture and to balance out all the sticky smooth sweetness smeared on the plate. The other desserts were average too. Not quite as good as the savoury dishes and a bit heavy on the sugar.

The decor and furnishing are simple and comfortable, the atmosphere relaxed and lively and the service helpful and friendly. The waitress was great and knew just how to please my friend with her fussy dietary requirements. We’ll be back.

I have dined at Cafe Hanoi on two occasions - one was dinner with a friend and the other for my sister's birthday. Such a great restaurant!

I think the service is great and I love all the menu options - there is definitely something for everyone to try and you can share if you're into that. My favourite dishes were the summer rolls, bun cha (absolute heaven) and the pork wontons - all delicious!

I recommended having an early dinner here, because it fills up so quick!

Returned to Hanoi for a second visit a few weeks ago after really enjoying the food there the first time. Once again, it was delicious - the salads so fresh and flavoursome, the seafood tasty and the meat beautifully cooked. Our group of 6 was seated straight away on a Monday night at 7 o'clock, and the service was very good from then on, apart from one thing which I found quite annoying. When we ordered the hotpot of pork we were told it had run out. I said that was a shame, as we had talked about ordering it as it is so popular, and the waiter commented that it happens quite often! If it happens quite often, I thought to myself, then why not fix the problem and make more? More disappointment at dessert time when the traditional Vietnamese dumplings were also all gone! I really enjoy both the atmosphere and the food here and will return, but I hope I can give them the fifth star next time.

Lovely atmosphere for a night out, with good vegetarian options. The waitress here was really friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and we can't wait to return again. Would also recommend the cocktails, both alcoholic and non!

Food is great but can't say that about the service at Cafe Hanoi. We arrived at the restaurant and were told there was a 40 minute wait. So we opted to have some drink at the bar. An hour later we asked if our table was ready and we were told we were not on the waiting list and would have to wait another 40 minutes! Not impressed with the service.

Cafe Hanoi wasnt bad but it wasnt great. I have spent months in Vietnam and was disappointed with the menu. It wasnt ok, but I have had better. Good service but the tables are all a bit cramped. Disappointed that you couldnt book at Cafe Hanoi in advance.

I really love the food at cafe hanoi but as much as the food is great, the atmosphere is equally as good. Staff more than happy to hang around and have a discussion despite being run off their feet.
I had the John Dory last week and that dish was first class. Cafe Hanoi is well recommended as probably the best Vietnamese restaurant in Auckland imho.

although probably not the best vietnamese eatery in town if you are just looking at taste alone (my pick would be Try It Out), but with the atmosphere, vibe and location, Cafe Hanoi stands above the rest.
Definately Britomart price levels, one real standout dish for me was the hotpot of pork belly - delicious!

The flavours and inspiring dishes on the menu are fantastic, Great atmosphere and a very popular little spot. Cafe Hanoi is well worth popping your head in and grabbing a table if there is one. Great service which is always a treat.

Went to Cafe Hanoi for dinner on a Sunday, got there relatively early, but glad we did as it did get busy.

This place is an absolute must for any Aucklander. The food was amazing and the service was impeccable.

There were 4 of us and ordered about 5 plates, as the food is meant for sharing. The highlight of the meal were the prawns they were beautifully made in an almost tempura like batter. Dessert was only good I recommend the lemon curd, that was the winner.

All in all Cafe Hanoi is doing Asian cuisine right, I look forward to returning back there soon!

Took a client to Cafe Hanoi today for lunch. Fairly busy so service was quite rushed and not overly friendly.
Food was good however - the two of us shared the shaking beef and crystal bay prawns with both having some fantastic flavours coming through.
Will definately give Cafe Hanoi another go but may pick a time less busy.

Lovely fresh food and a cool atmosphere/staff - little wonder why Cafe Hanoi is so popular. Went here during the week (for lunch) and like a few other reviewers, I went for the papaya salad which was perfect. Well done Cafe Hanoi - a great Vietnamese experience!

After reading heaps of user reviews (the most very positive) we were pretty excited about the prospect of our first trip to Cafe Hanoi in Britomart. Very busy on this visit (Thursday night) but thankfully we'd already made a prior reservation.
Setting is pretty cool and the staff are certainly very knowledgeable if a little over confident.
The food on the other hand could not be faulted - the chicken and papaya salad was deliciously fresh and brought back all sorts of memories from holidays in that part of the world, but the pork belly was the real deal! Cafe Hanoi is expensive considering portion sizes, but well worth the visit to Britomart all the same.

Had a business catch up at Cafe Hanoi yesterday and unfortunately by the look of all these positive reviews, must have caught Cafe Hanoi on a bad day.
Service was good (especially fitting us in at the last moment given the time of the year) and there's a buzzy atmosphere going on but the food didn't quite reach the levels I was expecting.
We shared some starters of minced shrimp on wonto-ey things and summer rolls, and then shared the mains of squid, beef and a papaya salad.
The beef was beautiful, but the papaya salad was very bland.
Nevertheless - with a few drinks under our belts and with change from $150, thought it was fairly well priced.
I'll give Cafe Hanoi another shot in the New Year when things aren't as manic.

Cafe Hanoi is first class! I'm not from Auckland but friends living in town that we're staying with were raving about the place....after last night's experience it seems they weren't talking it up.
Service attentive, staff friendly and the vietnamese cuisine perfect - great for this time of year as it's so refreshing.
Now if only we could get a Cafe Hanoi in Hamilton!

Also went there on Friday. I thought the food was delicious - fresh, light and tasty. Loved the condiments on the side. I liked the atmosphere (it was bustling) but agree the staff were a little stressed. Although the wine list is on the pricey side, there were still some that offered value for money. Note they do not take bookings and we had to wait about 40 minutes for a table. But the waiter was happy to take a cell number and call when a table came free. With the new bars around that area - 1885 and Third and Social - we didn't mind at all. I would definitely eat there again.

Went to Cafe Hanoi on Friday. The Pepper Beef is great but overall the food was bland and the spring rolls were dry. The wine was too expensive. The ambiance was average and the staff were stressed out.
