Bon Ga Ne Restaurant Information

Many native Koreans themselves swear by the food at Bon Ga Ne, located right in the heart of Auckland Central. The food here is simple, unpretentious and retains the authentic flavours of Korean cuisine. Both the usual and the more elusive Korean dishes are offered; think mixed rice bibimbap or the communal spicy beef stews. From the pungent and spicy to the more soothing and mild flavours, Bon Ga Ne Restaurant guarantees to be able to offer something for all palates.

This place is actually quite good for large groups, and it's better because it's an BYO. A table of 15 of us and we had eight bottles of wine charging $5 dollars for each corkage, it was satisfying night. The food was good and priced well, I ordered the bbq beef which came out sizzling on a hot plate with a bowl of rice on the side along. I also ordered a korean style seafood pancake but it wasn't as tasty as the bbq beef and it lacked a dipping sauce which usually comes on the side at other places I been to (I asked for soy sauce and also dipped my pankcake into the sauce dish that served the potatoes). Anyway, the staff were attentive and nice and made us feel welcomed. The only downside was that large size groups are restricted to an a la carte menu and not able to fire up the bbq. Overall, give this place a try and make sure you bring a bottle of vino. :)

I don't often eat Korean food, but when I do, Bon Ga Ne along Mayoral Dr./ Queen St. is one of the few places that I'll go to. The food's pretty good and prices are reasonable. They're not too stingy on their refills of the side dishes and the tables aren't sticky like some others I've been too.

I like their dolsot bibimbap (Bibimbap in a hot pot). Got a bowl of soup with it on my most recent trip! :) I like how they give you a bottle of chilli sauce so that you can add as much or as little chilli sauce, to your liking.

Also, do try their big hot pots which is to be shared between two people. I'm not too sure what they call it but it's towards the back of the menu.
