Was very disappointed with the service we received on Easter Sunday. The lady who served us did not speak English very well and could not understand the simple request of a cheese toasted sandwich for my toddler. After asking the manager if this was possible, the answer was a flat out no. With no small menu options for children and no alternative suggestions by management, we settled for just coffee and juices instead while I got a toasted sandwich for my son from a cafe up the road. We sat with our friends who had already ordered and all their meals arrived at different times, my coffee was completely forgotten, and my friends reported their meals bland on verging on cold. Would not go here ever again. There are actually plenty more good cafes in Matakana, you just need to look a little futrther.
I would have given this cafe zero star rating however my pc would not allow this. I visited this cafe 12/01/2010 and ordered shrimp and avocado salad. The avocado arrived rotten, not only brown but rotten in places. After I complained then I notice the salad was extremely old, slimmy and inedible. I'm not one to complain about food, however having paid $12.50 I expected half descent food. Also the shrimp was pre frozen and it was so old that it had freezer burn. After politely complaining, the manager was called out and she denied everything. She mentioned that the slimmy salad had that appearance because of the vinaigrette dressing. I'm very familiar with vinaigrette dressing and did not taste any dressing on the salad other then the mayo that completely covered the shrimp to disguise the freezer burn. Absolutely no apology what so ever, just a replacement cake which valued at $4.50. Also the drinking glasses were the dirtiest I had ever seen. I have taken a photo of this on my mobile phone if one does not believe me. Overall I was extremely disappointed and had the manager treated me with respect then I would have had kinder thoughts towards this cafe.
The best breakfast out we've had in a very very long time. And the coffee was the best we had in Matakana the entire weekend.
I couldn't recommend this more highly.
