Been here several times and every visit has been a moment of pleasure for the taste buds. They often have bagels of the month just to add a bit of variety which keeps the menu fresh. Definite a place to try at least once.

What a great idea by Al Brown. And a great addition to the Auckland foodie scene! The menu is simple, authentic and delicious. Hand rolled, wood fired bagels being made right before your eyes…the smell is just intoxicating! You can choose from a variety of toppings including pastrami/swiss cheese/mustard or avocado/tomato/basil or salmon/capers/cream cheese and…Pics Peanut Butter - what could be a better topping this!?!These are the BEST bagels I have ever had… but they’re definitely not ugly!

Treated myself and a friend to Best Ugly Bagels last week - had to check it out after all the hype! Really enjoyed the bagels. The toppings (smoked fish on one, pastrami with swiss cheese and pickles on the other) were delicious and the actual bagel tasty and light, not stodgy at all as some bagels can be. The place is busy and lively, with orders being yelled out and people queueing for their lunch, and this atmosphere is part of the fun.

I had incredibly high standards for Al Brown’s latest venture. Depot as it is with many other people is pretty much my favourite pace to eat at the moment so when he opened another establishment in the form of Best Ugly Bagels I couldn’t wait to try it.
First thing you notice on arrival is the massive oven and I mean massive, churning out heaps of bagels constantly. I was surprised to only see a small glass cabinet that sells the ingredients to the bagels and not really full of bagels. Also with the menu it is relatively compact with only a few choices I am not sure if there is more in the pipeline but we were left (and it was the opinion of three of us) thinking that there probably was room for a little more choice. The part which is confusing for me is online there is a big list of bagel flavours which aren’t on the menu….The only conclusion I made was that these are suggestions for making your own bagels.
Onto the bagels we actually got, 2 of us got the hot mustard, pastrami, Swiss cheese and pickle and one just the cream cheese bagel. The pastrami one I could have eaten four times over, the mustard worked wonders with the pickle and pastrami. The bagel by the way was very fresh and very crispy just how I like them. I have never been a big fan of the soft doughy type bagels so this was good for me.
Overall great for a quick office lunch and I do think the plan is to expand especially expand into other cafes I know is already in motion. It wasn’t what was expected but I will definitely be grabbing another pastrami bagel sooner rather than later.

One of my clients is in the City Works Depot so decided to spend a bit longer in the neighbourhood and called in to Best Ugly Bagel. Day one so pretty rammed as you'd expect but already I can see it being a popular spot.
Had the TAB option - basil, tomato and avocado which was certainly tasty and filled a hole - good choice for a lunch option.
I like what I see with Best Ugly Bagel - I think I'll be having regular meetings at my clients from here on in!
