Auckland's Best Sunday Roasts

Auckland's Best Sunday Roasts

The Franklin

One of Ponsonby's truely good time bars, in a little over a year The Franklin has also developed a rather solid reputation for delivering top-notch edibles of the gastro-pub variety. The Sunday Roast is at the forefront of this - roast beef and yorkshire pud with all the trimmings - now if that's not a way to recover from a big Saturday session we don't know what is.

The Matakana Village Pub

12.00 on Sunday is the only time you really need to know. Take a date/friend/(insert dining companion here) and time your visit to Matakana for this magic hour and you'll be treated to one of the most succulent roast meals you're likely to find. $34 for a slowroasted, corn fed chook...did we mention that's for two! If you're wanting to car-pool, we're more than happy to assist.

The Grill by Sean Connolly

Since opening, SkyCity's flagship restaurant has been a mecca for Auckland's carnivorous community. It may be difficult to go past the wagyu scotch fillet or aptly named 'study of beef' but the sunday roast provides every bit the satisfaction that you'll be craving. Slow roasted rib of beef, Yorkshire pudding all finished off with a bearnaise sauce and red wine jus - at $40 it's not cheap but the taste sensation is one to be savoured.

Spitting Feathers

For a wee slice of the motherland expat Brits head in droves to the Spitting Feathers. It should therefore come as no surprise that this British satellite also serves up one of Auckland's best sunday roasts from midday. And all for a meagre 15 slides...looks like you've got room for a few Bulmers to boot.

Galbraiths

Hawkes Bay Lamb, a roaring fire and a pint of Bellringers...exactly how you should be relaxing on a wet, wintery Sunday. Do you need any more incentive?

Eight At The Langham

What's better than a succulent roast meal with all the trimmings you ask? Well, the opportunity to relive that over and over. Eight is about the most refined smorgasboard experience you're likely to encounter in the big smoke but if you're determined to indulge in a revelry of roast, don your elastic-waisted pants and get mentally prepared.
