The Fridge, Kingsland

Mention pies and you will frequently be met with raised eyebrows and “Have you tried The Fridge?” coupled with a knowing look and a pointed stare. It would of course to be remiss of us not to include this popular Kingsland cafe, a regular on the Metro top 50 and home to the Rolls Royce of pies. Large, stately and oozing great taste they may just be the best. Their Beef & Guinness, Thai Chicken Curry and Moroccan Lamb (just to name a few) are among 800-1000 pies that fly out the door each week, with their famous Chicken and Mushroom the biggest crowd pleaser.

Open 7 days a week, with a friendly buzz, great food and a nice sunny outdoor eating area hidden out the back you can see how this place has become something of an institution. At $8.50 they’re not the cheapest but nobody expects them to be when its craftsmanship and parts are of this calibre.

Recommendation: Potato, Mozzarella and Mince. Hot mince and rich, buttery potato mash, very lightly peppered with a layer of melted cheese; all encased in a golden, delectable pastry.
