Auckland Restaurant Month Guide 2017

Auckland Restaurant Month Guide 2017

Restaurant Month is back in the Heart of the City this August, bringing 31 days of incredible foodie experiences to the table. With more than 100 different events and attractions taking place, we thought you’d appreciate a bit of guidance. Enjoy (what’s not to)!

Truffle Shuffle, 5th August 2017

Black Diamonds. Philosopher’s Stones. Potatoes of Thunder. An ingredient with as many nicknames as it has OMG taste moments is too good to pass up.

Long considered an intoxicating luxury for the wealthy few, truffles have now made their way to the southern hemisphere and New Zealand boasts 30 productive truffières spread from Bay of Plenty to Invercargill.

This Restaurant Month we celebrate the truffle season by creating a truffle infused feast with a well-known Auckland chef, with a well-honed love of the earthern explosion, Sean Connolly.

Assembling support from the best producers in the business, Sean and his expert team will take meticulous care of the details so the mighty truffle, for one day can take the centre stage.

Meal includes a drink on arrival with canapes and 4 courses. Matching wines (3) are available at an additional $30 extra on the day.

Dinner By Bike, 1st, 15th, 22nd August 2017

Join your hosts Bike Auckland to discover Auckland’s central city streets and flavours from a fresh perspective with Dinner by Bike. This progressive three-course dinner on wheels takes you on a leisurely 10km round-trip tour of the city, with stops for entrée, main, dessert, and nightcap.

Starting at City Works Depot with an appetizer at Food Truck Garage, the trail winds along pathways and cycle ways to the main course at IMA Cuisine. Finish with a delectable dessert at Giapo followed by a post-dinner drink back at Brothers Beer.

Between courses, take in Auckland’s sparkling new cycle ways, streets and public spaces by night – a brilliant way to activate all five senses and experience the city as never before. Riders can bring their own bikes and should be comfortable riding on city streets.

A Taste Of Maori Fine Dining, 30th August 2017

For some years now Maori cuisine has been making a comeback in some very exciting ways. For Restaurant Month 2017, we are creating a unique event that teams up some of the staunchest supporters of this Maori cuisine scene, Monique Fiso and Morgan McGlone alongside Neil Brazier at The Sugar Club at the top of Sky Tower. Join the stalwarts of this scene to take true New Zealand flavours to the greatest heights of Auckland dining

One Day In France, 26th August 2017

This one-day festival is designed to be enjoyed in two parts. One Day in France is a market with 35 stalls offering everything from food (Pastries, coffee, cheese, charcuterie, chocolate, crepes, jam, roasted chicken, bread and ice cream) to fashion to language lessons including; breakfast 'à la française' with coffee and a croissant; a glass of wine from the wine motherland (or a bottle or two for home); the world's less tiring sport: la pétanque with a glass of Pastis; an ever-rotating collection of French short films; local music, and a French business conference … this event has it all covered.

Street Eats, 19th August 2017

The biggest day on the Restaurant Month calendar is also the busiest day of the year for many of our most exciting central city restaurants.

This is an event like no other – restaurant teams across the city come together in the big shed on Queens Wharf to serve up a myriad of different international styles and flavours with their take on the hottest global street food.

A Taste Of China, 23rd August 2017

Renowned Kiwi chef Nic Watt of MASU and Huami Executive Chef Jeff Tan who has had an esteemed career at some of the finest restaurants in Asia and the Middle East collaborate to present a five-course degustation.
