Headed to our regular - Aubergine for the little persons birthday dinner! They do great kids meals and no it's not just nuggets & chips but fresh pan fried snapper! As per usual it was a lovely meal, great friendly service and the first timers we took with us we very impressed - the pan fried snapper (adult menu) with white wine sauce is always good.
Only complaint from the little person was they stopped making their homemade curly fries - no not the disgusting frozen ones but made from real potatoes - but still great meals!
I went to Aubergines Albany last night. This must be the 15th time i have dined here and will probably be the last. I'm sure i have written a previous positive review and like to give credit where it is due, but last nights meal was probably one of the worst i have had in a long time and for top dollar.
It was a Tuesday night and there were very few people in the restaurant. We arrived at Aubergine Albany around 7pm and sat down and were finally asked if we would like drinks. We ordered a drink and then promptly ordered our meal, so as to not be there all night. My husband ordered duck and i ordered a scotch fillet. Our orders were taken.
About 15 minutes later the owner came over and told my husband the chef wasn't happy with the condition of the duck and wasn't happy to serve it to him, so could he choose something else. We eat out a lot and i have never been told this before. I should have insisted we leave then, but endured the meal. You would think this would be something the chef would suss out at the beginning of the his service, not during it. My husband ordered an eye fillet, but asked that it came with the same accompaniments as the duck, not the veggies that came with the steak. No problem he was told.
Our meals were served to us and instead of the roast veggies that would have come with the duck, there was a hash brown/potato cake that the steak was sitting on. Not at all the accompaniments that went with the duck. My scotch fillet was nicely cooked, but was the same size as the ones i buy at the supermarket, in a pack of 3 for $15. It came on a plate swamped with gravy and the veggies that came with the meal were a whole pile of zucchini slices. YUCK! My meal cost $31.50 - which i would expect to pay for a quality meal, not a pub style meal. It was very disappointing.
I have referred so many people to Aubergines Albany and am now kicking myself, as it was one of the most disappointing meals i have ever been served.
Having read all the good reviews of Aubergine,we were looking forward to something special.
Sadly, we went on a quiet Thursday evening last week, and were very disappointed with the conditions. We had to change one chair at our table for 4 as it has bird muck on the seat, and the table was covered in glass rings from,we assume, condensation from glasses.
Then the ordered bottle of wine came, and it was not well chilled. This was mentioned to the waitress, and the Duty Manager then appeared and said all the wine was in the same refrigerator and she would bring one from the back and use an ice bucket to cool it further. If a restaurant with the accolades they have can't serve well chilled Sauvignon Blanc at the start of a quiet evening, what chance.
The food was good, but overpriced for the size of the portions we were served.
AMAZING food.It was so difficult to choose what to eat because everything on the menu at Aubergine sounded really good. The only disappointment was that we ordered the fish, and then found that they had run out of salmon. The owner was on hand to explain that it was because it was Sunday night, and therefore they did not still have a stock of fish at the end of the week, which makes sense and although a little disappointed we were satisfied with that explanation. Complementary appetizers followed, which was a nice touch. The presentatation and taste of the food was well above average. Definitely fine dining and the chef obviously knows what he or she is doing. Priced reasonably expensive, but value for money if you are looking for high quality food and service in a trendy but relaxed atmosphere. We will definitely return to Aubergine Restaurant, but next time on a weeknight so we can try the fish ;)
WOW. Aubergine Restaurant is an AWESOME place for a family visit, enjoy the food and desert and especially the excellent service been offered. we were well looked after, we got served in the next 5 minutes after we arrived and ordered. 4 star
We ate there last year, Amazing food, Service was a little slow, But once we got our orders it was worth it!
We love going to Aubergine Albany - taking Master 5, they serve us really quickly & he LOVES their curly fries! Not processed but REAL potato curly fries & pan fried fish. Usually kids only get the option of deep fried crap at most restaurants - but Aubergine has a great kids menu....
Plus we love the food too!!
Love Aubergine - everytime we've been - we've been happy with our meals - especially desert. Good lunch menu too! Great service at both Albany & Takapuna
