Not only damn good coffee but the food is worth a visit in it's own right. Lunch today was humming - which proves the Altura secret is out and it's obviously not only me that was impressed.
My meal choice of the corn fritters and bacon with avocado proved to be a good'un. Generous portions, fresh, nice accompanying salsa salad - can't got wrong.
I only wish there were more good cafe offerings in Albany. Altura - spot on.
Love the coffee - can't stand the food:(
Had a meeting here over lunch and ordered the chicken, pesto and bacon roll which I had toasted...to say the bread was as hard as a sun baked dung brick was an understatement...c'mon Altura, you've got a great venue and your staff are friendly but you really need to spruce up your act on the food side - I've now been to Altura a few times to eat and unfortunately had a dud time of it.
best coffee on the shore (helps if you are the source I suppose!). Can get really busy so service times are sometimes on the slow side. I really like the Blends on offer at Altura - if you're a big coffee drinker you'll appreciate the variety. Food looks good but I've found sometimes a bit too plain tasting - I can live off coffee alone so Altura suits me!
i do not understand. why they are so busy. the reason i think they are head office of altura coffee and do have big coffee roaster inside cafe.
First, coffee was not tat good - ordered Short Macchiato and 1 flat white and 1 trI'm flat white. OK barista extracted shots fine enough but he did not warm espresso cup enough therefore when i got min- coffee was COLD ( no knowledge about how to make proper coffee) also 2 flat white just came up and waitress did not know which one was trim - i've sent back and she came back and point one was trim. i bet none of those coffee was trim ( barista just made it up, i can taste trim and non- trim milk) . Second, i had steak sandwich- very disappointed as they did not marinated steak. it was just tasteless steak sandwich ever. Last, staff - i've felt staff is bit too arrogant especially young staff. To sum up i would recommend people to go other cafe such as Mozaik cafe or Columbus coffee . im sure they do have better food and better coffee.
Stopped in to pick up a coffee & they had the most delicilous cinnamon scrolls......
Will definetaly be going back there again!
Nice to see they also treat their "regulars" very well too!
As always, exceptional coffee and great service...our work has moved into the area and Altura Cafe is now my local...and boy do I look forward to that daily coffee fix!
Went to altura for breakfast and was greeted by friendly and enthusiastic waiters. a refreshing change.
With two kids under three in tow, finding a cafe offering both good food and fairly efficient service on the North Shore is often quite an issue. Our Sunday morning staple has become the Devonport Stone Oven, not because the food nor service is anything to write home about, but because there is an ok children's area, and usually we just grab some items of the deli and occupy the kids for a wee while.
Hearing about some good child friendly cafes on the city side, we were inspired to check out a few cafes in the area and branch out a bit. We'd heard good things about Altura cafe (on this site and in the latest edition of Metro Magazine), so packed up and gave it a go.
Coffee roasting is done on site so you can imagine the smell - especially for coffee lovers. Busy morning, but staff were really outstanding and helpful - and in my mind a real credit to the owners.
My choice of the cinnamon french toast with bacon was a little disappointing but my partners breakfast crumble was superb (although after tasting it I don't know which one would have been the healthiest!). My daughter had the kids hotcakes - with marshmallows no less - as well as the obligatory fluffy. Our coffees were exceptional - although you would expect that wouldn't you.
Only slight was that there is no real kids area but otherwise good value cafe worth a visit.
