Al's Deli is a hidden gem in the Auckland CBD. Just discovered this place recently and have been there twice in the space of 2 weeks! With the smell of freshly made bagels and a relaxed diner style atmosphere Al's deli is the perfect destination for that cheat meal. The Buffalo wings are the best I've ever had!!! We tried the hot sauce version first and thought they were pretty good then we tried the bloody mary and we were in chicken wing heaven. Seriously, you need to try it!The Poutine (fries with gravy, cheese curds and brisket) was very good too. The brisket has a similar texture to corned beef and the gravy on the fries elevates this dish from side dish to main. Now for dessert, the moose ear's were pretty good! We got the nutella and banana one and it came out drenched in nutella, delicious! Will have to try the maple and bacon one next time. The strawberry cheesecake was also good, not too rich or sweet.Be warned the portions are quite big so pace yourself!
Al's Deli is my new favourite restaurant. I went there for an early dinner and was blown away by The Saint (home cured maple smoked salmon with with cream cheese, onion and capers) on an onion bagel. I'm not a bagel connoisseur by any means but this was the best bagel I have ever had, nice and soft in the middle, not too hard and chewy. The home cured salmon was also fabulous. We also ordered the poutine with brisket which was very tasty. I couldn't decide if it was better than Fed Deli's so I think I will have to try them both at the same time. The beef brisket was really good though. My friend ordered the The Plateau (crispy coated chicken with aioli, roquette and tomato) on sourdough and she said it was just OK, not amazing. the sour dough was a bit thin for her liking. We shared the apple pie fries for dessert and were initially disappointed when they were brought out but they were fantastic. Hot pastry with apple filling inside and a yummy butterscotch/caramel sauce. Al's handmake everything (bagels, cheese, bread, sausages, cronuts, everything) and even sell maple and cherry smoked bacon and salmon to take home.
