The ViewAuckland Review
Vibe
Resembling a rustic beach hut off the south coast of Sri Lanka, with the bonus of a soundtrack of Sinhalese pop music. We’re just not sure where the cowboy hats fit.
Service
Keen and eager, with a real interest in explaining the huge range of Sri Lankan flavours on offer. Takeaway service can be a tad slow, so it’s worth phoning ahead to order.
Highlights
The kottu roti ($12.99), a zingy combination of vegetables, egg and chicken with chopped and diced roti bread. It’s a classic street food in Sri Lanka, and 7 Siri’s version is spicily authentic.
Most Surprising Dish
Definitely the lump rice ($13.99), with a spicy mound of rice wrapped in a banana leaf and combined with curries and chutney.
Drinks List
Not licensed for beer or wine, so just the usual array of soft drinks and juices.
The Bottom Line
Sri Lankan restaurants are thin on the ground in Auckland, and 7 Siri is a great value and well-run addition to the city’s ethnic dining scene.
A Reason To Return
For some of 7 Siri’s tasty finger food, spicy deep-fried goodness including curry rolls, samosas, and lamb, chicken or vege curry roti (around $2 each).
