Three friends with deep rooted passion for food and their Indian culture bring you Auckland's newest Indian culinary experience. Apparently they discovered a buried notebook in Federal Street under a construction site which contained secret recipes collected from India from an explorer in 1947, hence the name. I think that’s a fable, but fin none-the-less. 1947 eatery presents you with some of the city's most contemporary yet authentic Indian cuisine. Being first generation immigrants growing up in the melting pot of Auckland city, they are inspired from the street vendor snacks on the bustling streets of Mumbai to the authentic Dum biriyanis from the Palaces of Nizam. They also have a specialised cocktail bar where they can concoct a bespoke drink for you. The onion bhaaji my friend and I tried and then on his suggestion I had the goat curry which was actually really good. Cooked perfectly! The lamb cutlets with Raita looked lovely and the Roti was buttery and soft, delicious.I loved the tin water cups which I have been since trying to hunt down – if anyone knows where I can buy them, let me know. It’s just along Federal Street past the Sky Tower so get down there for lunch. :-)
