Metro - Best High Tea Award 2008
The Winery in Langham Hotel offers one of the better quality high teas you can get in Auckland.
High tea, or "tiffin" as it is termed at the Winery in Langham, costs more than what it does at other places. At $39.50 per head on the weekends, it is expensive. However, the costs are justified as you get a good spread of food. The unique thing about 'tiffin' at the Winery is that they offer somewhat of a "buffet" of sweets in addition to the set three tiers of 'savouries' you get. Refills on beverage is included in the price. For eg., a refill of tea will see you getting an entirely new pot of tea with fresh tea leaves.
Food-wise, was alright. There were some interesting flavoured canapes. The overall is that while they make some items well, some were rather odd and not very well liked by my fellow diners and I.
The service was a bit lacking at times but may be due to some staff being new. Some staff are definitely not as experienced and appeared to lack knowledge in the tea selection. It would have perhaps been better for the inexperienced staff to seek help from those more experienced.
An overall enjoyable experience. I would highly recommend Tiffin at the Winery in Langham for high tea.
