Back to the whiskey ponsonby to hear Greg Johnson and Andrew Keoghan the other night. Sure I loved it, sure the whiskey is a great little venue. Maybe NZ music Month organisers could think bigger exposure rather than the exclusive angle, not to take anything away from great NZ musicians though. Still 4 stars from me.
Jordan Luck, Black River Drive, Last night - what can I say, best I've seen for a while, The Whiskey going off, Ponsonby's ONLY place to be, great they are doing all the May NZ music month gig, I see I missed out on quite a few as they were all sold out.
We attended the 'Cocktail College' at Whiskey last night and I have to say that we had a great night. The class was interactive - we got to make all our own cocktails - and was a lot of fun. I would recommend it to anyone.
I was a bit disappointed in my first visit to The Whiskey. It seemed a bit dry, lacking atmosphere - which I had not expected after listening to people talk about it and reading the reviews. Maybe it was just a bad evening, but I hope it's better next time.
Ah, forget the comment about pretty and pretentious people ... man, what is this ... a review from someone in Hamilton??!!
Whiskey is fantastic -- and it's not at all a snooty Auckland hang-out. It's cosy (thank God for the non-smoking law, cas this tiny space was a smoke-filled nightmare before the laws changed!).
You'll get real bar service here; from bar staff who know how to create awesome drinks (not just knock the top off a bottle!).
Music is great, but there's still a bit of ear-room for some decent conversation.
Give it a go -- still a great bar.
Packed full of the pretty & pretentious Ponsonby people - exactly what you've come to expect (and love) about the better venues in Ponsonby.
The Whiskey Bar in Ponsonby at a weekend gets packed tighter than the Warehouse on sale day. But its worth it. With the fading red-brick interior to the stylised spirits bar there’s a lot going for this little drinking den in one of Auckland’s hippest suburbs.
You’ll find a mixture of all types here though they’re predominantly young, fresh and funky looking for a good night out. Leave your aggression at the door and enjoy imbibing some of the finest cocktails around.
Definitely a recommendation.
