The Store, Britomart - Cafe Review

It’s an all-day menu, with a wide range of options. I was in a bit of a rush, so ordered a smaller dish, not to be honest expecting much. However, the Campagne bruschetta with pan fried market fish and dried heritage tomato was an absolute delight, fresh and tasty and a different spin on a standard dish. This was the epitome of a light lunch, but satisfied in every way. There’s olive oil on the table which I applied liberally. I popped past the takeaway arm on the way out and grabbed a baked custard and plum tart. Delicious.

The non-alcoholic beverage list is quite impressive, especially the gelato milkshakes (Vanilla Bean, Double Chocolate and Salted Caramel). The banana and milkshake smoothie was lovely.

The Store is split into two – a mainly-outdoor seated café complete with gelato cabinet opposite Youbee, and on the other side (you have to walk right around) a ‘grab-and-go’ coffee and treats bar. I like the little clumps of seating where you can wait for your coffee, and I’m wondering quite how it’ll work in the middle of winter, but I’m sure they’ve got it all sorted.

Great – instant placement, instant water and knowledgeable staff. I liked the constant fizzy water top-ups and the speed at which they got out my lunch when I said it had to be fast. So often promised, so often not followed through with.

The fresh delicacies at the takeaway end. Love the mini lamingtons.

The Bottom Line

The Hip Group just can’t put a foot wrong, can they? The Store café on its own would be a welcome addition to Britomart, but to have two ends catering to the leisurely lunch and the quick bite, The Store is truly the best of both worlds.
