Dined at the Olive Press Bistro last evening. The service was first class and the food was excellent (try the pork belly - delicious!!) The prices for food and for wine was as expected and we thought good value for money.
The only downside (a minor matter really) is that the "tables-for-two" along the window frontage are very close together leaving inadequate space for private conversation.
We would definitely revisit the Olive Press restaurant.

We (a group of 4) dined at the Olive Press on a Wednesday night in August. The service IS very good and the restaurant was warm, lovely and not cramped. The menu is a good size with a good amount of choice and would appear to cater for all tastes. However - the Olive Press is expensive - mains range from $25 to $40 and the food does not warrant this. Additionally when we ordered our mains the waitress did not recommend that we order some sides. When the meal arrived the food looked delicious, but it was not plentiful and everyone was still hungry when we had finished. We decided not to stay for dessert and another glass of wine because of the cost, and headed down the road for a cheaper and more plentiful coffee or mulled wine and dessert or cake at another Devonport eatery. The wine list at The Olive Press was good - it had many options from a wide range of countries, but again the prices were high and consequently we only ordered a glass each as opposed to a bottle.
We did have a pleasant evening in a lovely wee restaurant but we won't be back - the food isn't brilliant enough and the prices are too steep for what is served.

Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate that everyone has different expectations when dining out....would appreciate however that the facts not distorted, the most expensive main at The Olive Press is $36 for lamb rack. Not $40 as quoted. Thanks again - Report

The food was very tasty at the Olive Bistro. The staff were sweet and friendly. The Russian chef was adorable. However, portions were too small and over priced. The creme brulee was miniscule and the price was a rip off. Not a place I would want to visit again,as it is not value for money. - Report

Service at the olive press in Devonport can't be faulted. We were here for dinner the other week and the weather was turning a bit cold - and low and behold a rug was brought out for us - how fantastic is that!
The calamari is exquisite and my dining companion said the steak that he had was fantastic. Overall a great dining experience - the Olive Press is worth the ferry ride over to Devonport.

The Olive Press is perfect for a evening chill-out with friends or family, we went on a Monday night, it wasn't busy, and we sat outside in the courtyard, with open fire. Supreme service, the waiter gave us each a blanket while we were waiting for another friend to come. Food was nice as well, I ordered the stuffed free-range chicken breasts, a pretty well-done cooking job, and love the calamari rings as well!

It took 70 minutes to get served at 7pm on a Wednesday night. I got $35 fish slop. My wife got 4 lamb cutlets that could have come out of a supermarket frozen food section. We left without eating.

Not worth replying to, except to say that we had to get the police involved before the drinks and meal were paid for....we are happy to deal with all complaints but walking out without discussing the issue or paying for anything will get you nowhere. - Report

Great lunch at the olive press today and I think your reviewer was right on the money - the portion sizes are huge. I had the open chicken sandwich and my dining companion, the fish cakes. Service was bright and efficient and the setting fantastic on a sunny summers day - we'll be back to the olive press soon!

I had to eat my words about this place. I had a nice glass of wine last week and perused the menu, which I didn't find to my liking. By hook or by crook I went there for dinner last night and I must report that it's pretty good.
I chose the chicken with brie and bacon (or was it Pancetta) and my friend had rack of lamb. Both were excellent meals.
I would give this place four stars. My only complaint was that the breads platter was puny and pretty ordinary. I expect a little more bread that that guys.

Brought in New Years at the Olive Press Bistro and Bar yesterday. Brand new place in Devonport, the Olive Press did get most things right, but I dont know if it was the big night nerves or what, but inexperienced and uneducated staff (not in a scholarly sense but there was little to no knowledge of their wine list and meal matching) meant they fell short of our expectations quite significantly. We'll give Olive Press another go on a less popular night though.

Ate at the Olive Press last night. Service was friendly, although not competent - waiter was obviously new/inexperienced. Food was quite good - although the servings were enormous and my duck had a rather unusual pairing of olives. Dessert was disappointing (and very expensive). The strawberry and rhubarb creme brulee was a disaster - looked like curdled scrambled eggs. This needs to be removed immediately, if not sooner.

Coffees arrived ten minutes before the desserts arrived which was frustrating.

Great potential here, but given the prices, they need to lift their game. - Report
